Hotel de France Montreuil-sur-Mer

... way to Boulogne. After parking the car and getting settled in at the hotel, we went for a bit of exploring.

Boulogne (which is pronounced 'ba - loin'...at least to us English speaking folk) is an old town which has been settled for around 2000 years. Like many towns around Europe, there is an old walled part of the town, with subsequent urban sprawl around the outside. ... admit that not too many of my fellow countrymen would have even such an imperfect idea of what was going on in any other country of the world, so I had to grant them that at least.

Finally they moved on to the subject of California wines, of which the expert explained, we had almost none of the white variety, only red. Some of them are pretty good; he went on, (although they’re really just varieties of French wines…).

... and the view beyond the walls. There were parks, sports facilities and monuments all along the outside of the wall and a gorgeous walking path for joggers and dog walkers on the inside of the wall. With the time difference we arrived in Boulonge at 2:30 and headed south to the village of Montreuil-Sur-Mer. Sur Mer means on the sea, but deceptively this place is more than 15 miles inland. That's ok though I had been here each year while in London on a boys booze cruise ...

... I'm not sure how useful some of the comments were, but I'm going to keep them in mind! I'm trying to be organised, which means laying out everything on the spare bed and assessing what I really need. I seem to be adding more to the pile than taking away though! I will def pack my bag tomorrow and see if I really can get everything in - not including Saff who keeps climbing into my bag! I think she wants to come with me! :) Anyway... back to assessing the piles..... M

... to admire the historic buildings which are mainly used as museums and touristy shops and cafes. The centrepiece of the old town is the Basilica of Boulogne which is an impressive sight and is visible across the city. From here I headed back into the town to do some shopping and decided to skip on visiting Nausicca, the city's big underwater aquarium. After a nice meal of crepes with french fries I headed for the bus back to Calais.

... and beach shops. It was a little choppy over the English channel but Bryan had two really great landings and he did a good job flying. We landed in tme to do all of the post-flight activities and Roger dropped us off at the Denham station so that we could take the tube back to King's Cross station (same as in Harry Potter) to take the Eurostar train back to Brussels.

... the outside. There were some interesting looking cobbled roads leading away from here, so we take one of them and roam around the winding medieval back streets which are full of extremely impressive architecture. We stop for coffee in the sunshine and then stumble upon 'Ruines St Bertin' - which is the remains of an old abbey, dating back to the 7th century. ... up and have no plans. There's no swimming pool open here yet, so we've moved on quickly another 5 hours down through France so the kiddies have their swimming pool! We had a lovely walk on Thursday in Eperleque. We walked to the Boulangerie in the village and then walked to the 'Blockhaus' which is an old bunker from World War 2, where the V1 ...
