Diego resigns, we visit ruins and drink tequila

... ever been on. Thank God I brought travel sick pills.

San Cristobal is up in the mountains. It's a great little town. Loads of shopping. Diego told us it was a good place to get traditional Mexican food. So we went for dinner at a Lebanese restaurant run by two brothers from London. Then we went to watch a film about corruption in the Mexican police. I was glad I had already been to Mexico city, otherwise I think the film would have put me off, as it was mainly about ...

Tequila, it makes me happy

... so I quickly polished that off and waited for the party to start. I asked the barman when that might be and he said last night was a one off for the local uni so there was only about half a dozen of us up there all night. I had assumed the place was pretty full but semingly not so I spent a few hours chinwaging with a German doctor from Berlin and when she went to bed met a crazy Southern Irishman from Tiperary called Fred. Spitting image of Fidel Castro but with ...

In the beginning......

... Mexican Basil Fawlty. And yes I am going to be called Lucy for the next few months as no one in Central America seems to be able to say Lizzy. I asked him for a non smoking room, and he said of course, no problem. The first things I saw when I went into the room were two massive ashtrays, one either side of the bed, and a cigarette burn in the blanket. I had a shower, accidentally swallowed some water, and lay awake waiting for amoebic dysentry to kick in.

I had three free days ...

In San Miguel de Allende

... with a hot meat filling - delicious! Skip came home and we went for another walk in a different direction and discovered more shops and places to see. Returning to the one striking aspect about the shops in San Miguel is that most of them have no windows and when you walk past you have to peer in the door. Some of the shops have items hanging from their doors I guess in place of windows. In addition the size varies from a 12 foot square area and in a few situations less with just ...

San Miguel

... of a cane of the curb or on one of those demonous rocks. But once you get over that obstacle, Sana Miguel has more than enough to offer. Last night I saw a gringette eating a hot dog from a street vendor. Not sure I'd go that far, wonder how she feels right. The church's and their spires scattered throughout the city. The colorful paints used on the adobe walls and the mystique of the city ...

The big city

... meet and so many things to see - museums, cathedrals (the Spanish conqistadors built it on the top of the ancient temple - Templo Mayor, which represented the beginning of the Mexico City :-/), the famous Diego Riviera's murals... The days flew by and it was soon time to move on. For the farewel we visited the 3rd highest building in Mexico, Mirador, and admired the city in all its greatness. We couldn't see the end of it! Spectacular!

Hey there! Once again I'm back in San Miguel de Allende and waiting...... While I was in Jalapa, I decided to research another teachers course to take and decided on the one in Ottawa, Canada called United TESOL in order to get a TESOL certificate. Yep, yep. ... who drowned in the river. A little disturbing. After this Edith takes us back to Coyacan, by which point she is looking very ill with a headache. Both K and i think she says she´s off for a tequila to help... since she has just told us she can´t see much and she is driving us around we are a little concerned! However chucking the keys to the parking attendant to park her car she insists we won´t go back yet so we let her recover in a cafe ...

San Miguel de Allende

... food words for ordering in a restaurant or buying something at the market. There are so many celebrations and festivals here. Apparently they celebrate so many days for saints, the people were told by the church to back off on the number of holidays because no work was getting done. There are over 75 religious and civic holidays celebrated annually. There are numerous celebrations for Christmas that start around December 20th and carry through the New Years. So it should be ...
