Smells like Cologne
... handcraft stalls, where goods are still produced in the traditional way. Lisa and I bought some hand-painted glass Christmas decorations from one of the booths. Many of the vendors were actually making the crafts at the booth, including the candy cane makers, who were rolling giant balls of sugar dough into candy canes. There were also booths of chocolate, cheese, and bratwurst.

In total we have walked/ visited "seven!" xmas markets in Cologne,, the city has put on a magnificent show.. from the city centre..Cologne is located on both sides of the Rhine River... to the riverside markets.. the visit to this city of one million plus has delighted us...
No hotel accommodation for us tonite.. the overnite train to Prague awaits !! All aboard...

... and we were held there for about 40 minutes before being told the train was being taken out of service and we had to get off and take the next train to Köln on another platform. Already I was envisioning missing my 19:10 flight and having to shell out €100+ to board a replacement one.
I got on this second train and commandeered a seat in first class (any port etc.). And so at 17:30, I was unexpectedly back in Köln, a year after ...
No more cakes for Del

As anyone who has been to Europe wouldl know, the bakeries here are absolutely magnificant. They are also out of the question for Del, so lots of willpower is essential. One of the positives is that chocolate is generally okay - yeah! So is the old European staple- Nutella - but not on a crepe or a waffle!

Brussels , Cologne, and snow between!!
Brussels turned on a dark cold morning which turned into a light snow ..probably sleet actually..as we traversed back to the station..Cologne bound... a journey of 220 kms in 1:47 mins.. the further into Germany we travelled , the heavier the snow.. viewed through the window it was magical..all the stuff movies, dreams and white Christmas' are made of... By the time Cologne appeared the weather had again ...
