... 8217;t get to talk to family or friends much so I have no idea what is going on back home.
But it really helps when I get postcards and emails from home. Even small comments on my blog (thank you Mitch) help. I want to take this time to thank those of you who have sent me cards or postcards in the mail, they are making my walls, as well as my smile, so much brighter. Also, thank you to those that send me emails, those always help and put a smile on my face. But enough of ...
... and took busses to Nuremberg. We visited the Zeppelin Field where the big Nazi Rallies were held and the Hall of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place. Bought a souvenir pin at Market Square and had cokes at a bistro while waiting for the bus to take us back to the ship.
... There was even an ex hab on the team (Andre Nasredine) who scored a goal for us! To make the night even better we won 6-2 with some awesome goals and awesome saves!
Very happy with our decision to return to Nuremburg for the hockey game we left the following morning for Vienna. It was a long trip so we cut it in half and spent a night in Linz, Austria. Another gorgeous place to pass right on through!
... has to offer. We bought a spatula (scrambled eggs) and some fruits!
So we have had brautwurst and currywurst and everywurst possible in the past few days! We decided to splurge and went to a snazzy Chinese restaurant for supper! This is only worth mentioning because I ate the biggest most delicious eggroll I have ever had ever!
We will be coming back to Nuremberg but for now on to Stuttgart!!!!
... after skipping dinner last night, and we knew we would be doing a good bit of walking today, seeing the town of Rothenburg (WROTE-in-burg). Afterwards, I got to shower in a stall just big enough to turn around; the vent was a four inch pipe straight through the wall, no screen, no cover, nothing.
We hit the street running this morning with no backpacks to slow us down. It was a 3 minute walk up the street to the Market Square, and we started window ...
... the main street of Konigstrasse, which had some interesting buildings but it was all pretty much reconstructed after WWII. We passed by St. Lawrence church and went inside. It was very beautiful and different from anything I’ve seen. It keeps amazing me how different churches can be. This one was entirely stone inside, a light brown color. The columns were adorned with many of the original statues. The church itself was pretty much flattened in WWII, but they had ...
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany zolina... town instead, then returned to the square just in time for the 8:00 Nightwatchman tour in English. I was only going to listen for 5 or 10 minutes, but he was very entertaining and told some great stories, so I ended up taking the whole tour till 9:00. Then I walked around the other side of town window shopping and circled back to the square, found an empty table and had a half liter of dunkle. It was a very relaxing evening, and something I will never forget.
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany bigdhaas... to think about it. The Germans impressed me as a very hard-working industrious people generally speaking. I guess I hadn't given this much thought until I went downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast one morning and a very nice German man looked at me, smiled, and engaged me in humorous conversation. It was then that I realized that the interaction was very unusual and very seldom had I interacted with a German who ...
Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany jrsherman81054... for the U.S. BEER DRINKING TEAM. Move over American Idol! I'll keep you posted as to our progress. When I'm not working or sampling German beer, I'm looking into the origin of the doner. This Turkish sandwich is offered here on base although I hear there are better examples around town. I have also consumed some very good Leberwurst which carried my thoughts back to liver sausage of my childhood ...
Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany kitchenshrink... my surroundings? No bidet here in Germany. As most of you already know I am staying in base housing. I have a shared kitchen and my suite-mate is Lieutenant Young. We have yet to meet personally although I hear him rattling around in the kitchen. The walls are so thin that I can also tell you that he too drinks a lot of German Beer and has quite a bladder:) The view from my window looks like the forests of Traverse City. Addendum: Tonight I finally made it to ...
