... motorway. And we had no vignette.

This was where the sat nav was of its last use. It got us to within a few miles of the border, on B roads. Then, not knowing what counted as autobahn and what didn't, we were scarily on our own. For about 20 miles we skirted the border, unable to get in. Then we took a risk, a 400 euro risk, on an A road that we knew, from our map, led into Slovenia.

As it turned out, we were fine, not fined. But before we knew we ...

... But what isn't a sight to behold in these parts? I'm currently sitting in the shade of the car on a campsite 20 miles outside Lienz, Austria, having had undoubtedly the greatest driving day of my life. A few thousand feet of lush green mountain, as manicured as any golf course, is staring down at me, incredibly steep-sided and forested on top. Steph managed it really well too although she said afterward that she was freaking out inside but ...

Yippee!! We are here in Italy in the Dolomites. Campsite No 4 is called Miravelle and it's in a pretty little village called Campitello Di Fassa. It's a lovely site, again very clean and well presented. The location of it is amazing - we are in the bottom of the valley with the mountains rising up all around us and loads of trees too. Last night (Monday night) after we arrived we got the caravan pitched and decided it was time to enjoy ...

... it was off the Motorway and up again into the Dolomites. It's strange passing all the skiing slopes in mid summer, especially the Olympic Ski Jumps. We also passed a massive Road Cycle Race, fortunately on the other side as the Peloton was huge and there was no way to get past it. After about an hour of driving through the mountains we reached the campsite at Campitello di Fassa. 194 Miles but still a 7 Hour drive, completed safely anyway. ...
