... middle of the road means nothing to some idiots. They would race out onto the wrong side of the road then suddenly have to push in about two cars ahead to avoid a head on collision.Twenty miles further and the clowns are still plodding along in the same queue of traffic but only about ten or so cars ahead.

Being on a motorcycle I could have got passed these cars on a number of occasions but I just cannot see the point of risking my life just to get a few cars ...

We were enchanted by the magic of the lakes, especially Lake Como, with low-lying clouds, misty mornings, twinkling evening lights. Everywhere, we were treated with kindness -- and treated to the most fabulous food, especially pasta, and wine.

      Back to Austria?

A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Sep 18, 2014

Time to leave Valle Verde. Decided to give Austria
another try as we are hearing that the weather has improved. However, with low
cloud this morning, there is little point in going over the high Dolomite
      passes.

Decided to go north through Moena and then west over a lower
pass to Bolzano. As expected, the low cloud made for little viewing of the
      mountain peaks.

Went north to Bressanone but stayed on a ...

Beautiful driving, through Corvara and Colfosco

... Drove over three passes in total, each over 2,000 metres.
Campsite in Colfosco pleasant enough but relatively expensive at knocking on 30
euros a night with electric (double what we paid at Olympia, for a better
location). Stopped to enquire at a second around Canazei but again knocking on
      30 euros..

      ... then upwards, broadly
under the cable car route up to Tofana di Mezzo (3444m). This is a three stage
cable car and we only walked up a little beyond the first stage, where there is
a restaurant (Refugio Col Druscie) and an observatory. Beautiful autumn crocii
in the meadows on the lower slopes of the walk.

We had lunch a little higher, at a closed chair lift
      station ...
