It was time to head up towards the top western corner to Greece, to visit Corfu. Did you know that Corfu only joined Modern Greece in 1864? We didn’t! And it also turns out that Phil the Greek – or is that Sir Phil the Greek, was born in Corfu! And it was also the beloved holiday location of Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We visited both locations (Mon Repos & Archilleon) but weren’t very impressed ...

It's not just the cleanliness of the buildings and streets, though this helps of course, it's because Urbino sits on a hill, and is alternately washed by the rain (and snow) and polished by the bright summer sun. Michael was due for his treat of the trip.....to see his Raphael in this gallery in the ...

We found our initial view was right: it is not flat. But it is very beautiful. Every single street goes up or down, often quite steeply, and many of them have great views as we hope you will see from the photos. Wait till we get back and you see the full slide show! ...

... that the restaurant was only 4 minutes walk from the hotel, even in the snow.

Anyway, we duly timed a snack at the right time so we would be hungry enough for dinner but not too hungry as to be past it. Very clever bodies :-)

At 9.15 we left our hotel wrapped up like Eskimos and slithered the short distance to the restaurant, taking extra care on the slope down to the building itself! The two rooms were already ...
