... which is about 2 km around and 25m high. Then we went up the cable car to the top of the hill overlooking the city for some spectacular views. Tomorrow we are going on a boat trip around the islands. ... were on the same ferry as us and continued thorough customs (or lack of) and eventually boarded the ferry. Our cabin was right at the bottom of the boat, even under where the vehicles are placed but it was cozy enough to get a good nights sleep before our week in Italy. Above on the observation deck we looked out over Split at night while our ferry left the port. We slept the 12 hours it took to reach Ancona, Italy ready for the next chapter of this holiday.

... br> Swimming at the beach - each day we watched from our windows as 100s of people wandered past on their way to the beach and so, off we went too. Once again we found people perched on rocks, concrete paths and narrow pebble covered areas soaking up the sun. It really made us miss Anglesea again and look forward to the Melbourne summer ahead!

And then it was time to fly away to Turkey (via Munich obviously!!) and begin another adventure.

Day 4 Arrival at Split at 7.00 in the morning. Perfect timing, so we can explore the famous Palace before the heat and other tourists arrive :) Amazing this ancient city within walls - sparks our imagination back to the old days! ... tiny little chapel where some were blessed by a welcoming nun…. Unfortunately only a brief look at the palace basements and no time to walk through Marjan Park overlooking the town. Next time, must allow time to have a good look and venture inland to reputedly amazing waterfalls and lakes (esp Plitvice Lakes NP).
