... there last night (performances are booked out months prior), and a popular Italian singer was playing tonight to a full house. Even at the back of the amphitheatre, you felt you we're right at the stage, very personal. All Greek amphitheatre's have a great backdrop, this one is no exception...Mount Etna! To complete the wow factor, at the top the back of the amphitheatre gives stunning views of the coast in front and behind from so high up. You can ...

After a good nights sleep and a full breakfast, we were well fuelled for our trip to Palermo, which we was 80kms from where we were staying. Uneventful drive until we hit the town itself. Wow, it is hard to get around with numerous one ways streets. We finished down near the sea and stopped to get out a stretch our legs. It would have been hard to drive around Palermo, so kudos to Neil! Whilst we were stretching the legs a bloke called Christian who had a tuk tuk got talking ...

Well bloggers, we started a two day adventure to the other side of Sicily (which the girls were so looking forward to...not), with a drive on the autostrade to Messina and on the northern coast of the island. We stopped at a couple of towns that we cannot tell you what they were as they are not on the map and I lost my Sicily book the day before at Mount Etna! The trouble with Sicily is that you need to cover a fair distance to see all it has to offer. There ...

... station for hours! After some lunch , we made our way to Etna (after a couple of wrong turns). It is a fair trip up the mountain to the cable car, which takes you to 2.4km up. Neil and I took a jeep up to the crater if the 2003 eruption, some 3,000 metres up, the closest you can get, some 309 metres from the main active crater, which no one can visit at the moment. Unfortunately, the weather ...

... during the summer months, holding some 3,000 people (7,000 before part of it was destroyed ), for opera's now. The backdrop over the bay is terrific, which was a common theme will all Greek theatre's. This one here is apparently one if the best preserved examples in the world. There was also on ruins of buildings, a roman theatre and a huge man made cave where the stone excavated was used for the amphitheatre. This was impressive and was fun acoustically. After this ...
