... ready.. We tried our best to hope in, but I think they would have noticed... Walking a few blocks more, we found the real crowd already lined up along the streets, singing, dancing, and drinking. We somehow managed to sneak into a prime spot right next to local cafe with speakers blaring German Carnival songs.

... and hundreds of horses too! Everything was so colourful and the crowd was so loud and excited, it was a great atmosphere! We stayed through the entire parade - which lasted around 5 and a half hours! - and enjoyed every minute! It was a long day, and we did get rather cold, but it was entirely worth it to experience a proper German tradition!

The elderly couple managed to climb 533 steps to the top of Cologne Cathedral this morning so despite the adverse comments yesterday we are not quite dead yet. We left Bonn very early morning today and arrived in Arnhem. This wasn't a scheduled docking area but couldn't dock in Nijmegen as they were working on the docking area because of the flooding that had occurred.
