Yesterday very successful day chasing ancestors - went tp szczytno (ortelsburg) ,Olsztyn ( Allenstein ), sadowo near biskupiec, alt keykuth in polish stare kiejkuty - there is supposed to be a secret CIA post there. Off to the airport at gdansk. At the airport now. Poland must have the craziest drivers in the world. They overtake on double lines and push opposing traffic off the road!! Totally loved Poland - ...
Incredible day in Poland - our hotel st Bruno was an old fortress on the Mazury lakes. Went for a beautiful long walk along the lake. Then drove on to a littler village - mikelska ( can't pronounce any of. The names) and did a ferry ride - gorgeous . It's a sunny day today and we nearly got sunburn on the ...
... But the roads in ,rural Poland are soooo bad!! We h ave been on the road for 5 hours already and still have heaps to go and today wasn't even supposed to be much of a driving day!!! We have lots of laughs anyway. Quick lunch with warm beer at a small village . Saw lots of storks with giant nests on power ...
... of the city and the university where she studied. There is a huge amount of city refurbishment and new public buildings courtesy of “the mother union” as Iza called it. Immediately we discovered the Warnian-Masurian Polish method of parking…. i.e. wherever your car will fit, permitted parking optional, the car parks were a maze and we seriously doubted whether either of us could have reversed our way back out of them! Iza was REALLY proud ...
... the day which is great for shopping and eating. For the culture lovers there are many churches to visit including St Mary's the oldest brick church. We also visit Tchec where Myk's Grandfather comes from and see the graves of his great grandparents. Happily, a note left on the grave means the English Derengowski's get back in touch with the Polish Derengowski's.
