... to the Augustiner for food last night, and came back and hung out at the hostel and hit the hay. Today should be interesting, we're going to tour Dachau and then search for some authentic German beer.

Dachau and Munich
We stop first at Dachau. I'm amazed at its size. You enter the gates into a huge open field (a few hundred yards wide and a few hunded yards long) with barracks on your far right and the SS offices on your left. You walk through the SS offices for a multi-room display of the history of torture, abuse, starvation, and mass murder. Day 28 - Munich
... castle in Europe and three million visitors see it each year. You have to have a guided tour and it is very organised, with groups going up stairs while the last group goes down etc. You get given a tour number and go through a turnstile when your number is displayed. It seemed very busy to us but we were assured it was the quiet time now.

Munich - 34 Years Later

We walked quite a bit of the city including all the Tors (old market gates). We checked out the BMW museum, which was an interesting contradiction – an energy and carbon neutral building powered by solar panels, purveying the largest, most powerful cars imaginable – many of them sports jobs. ... seemed to notice the fact that we were dressed for summer, soaked through and walking around the city in rain that showed no sign of stopping. ever. On returning back to the bar at the hostel more free drinks were thrown at us, i met lots more people and danced the night away.
