Today we headed out to explore the Schonbrunn zoo which the oldest imperial zoo in was a short train ride from our apartment so I ducked out early and picked up some things for lunch ( baguettes, Brie and salami) + a tube of Vegemite for Elissa! The zoo is next to the imperial palace and we walked through the fantastic gardens of the palace....i imagine they must look 1000 times better in summer. (sorry Kate) Crashed on our bed for about an hour before having a shower. Had dinner in a funny cellar type place in the ...

To finish off the cultural day we saw Die Fleidermaus at the Volksoper. We had bought ticket a couple of months ago. A box to the side, up on the 3rd level but quite close. It is really interesting to see ...

... that operate on the edge of the city centre and travel past a number of the tourist sites.

We found Vienna to be a very grand city with lots to see. We were busy all the time despite having 6 nights in the city and never ran out of things to do. The art was, of course, a highlight but there was so much else to enjoy not least of which was the friendliness of the locals and the distinctive eateries. Yes, Vienna was a departure for us but one we didn’t come to ...
