First European festival we have gone to...it was absolutely fantastic.
A group of 7 of us all jammed our camping gear into a friends car and drove from London to Werchter in Belgium, taking the ferry from Dover (UK) to Calais (France) to get us there. It was a very early start to the day, and getting to our campsite from the car park at the festival was a mission to say the least. Hours later we were all very ready for a drink or 5.
... but when we reached Ghent it stopped raining and we could wander the city quite well. Ghent is a city of churches, we have never seen so many churches in such a concentrated area, all competing for the fellow man and all 17th century or older. Ghent was interesting and had a canal system that at one time connected it to the North Sea and it flourished, but due to storms it silted up and the town went into decline.

... a 50-pound backpack! Once I found the hotel… which I thought was a hostel… its not, said the room was not ready yet, so I left my bag and wondered around the city.
What I have learned:
1) they LOVE chocolate, waffles and shopping!
2) As you walk down the street EVERY restaurant is trying to convince you to eat at their restaurant… got a bit annoying

Monday we packed up the tent and headed home. We expected some delays with the transport getting home so left early, but everything ran smoothly so we spent some time in brussels being amazed at their food selection.
Rock Werchter was a great festival, the organisation of everything was excellent and everything was very clean. There was no queueing for anything and the toilets were cleaned every hour and were portaloos rather than the reeking long drop toilets of the ...
Sunday and the last day of the festival. We started it off by watching Kitty, Daisy and Lewis and then heading over to the main stage for The epic Dropkick Murphys a definite festival band. then we saw the best songs from die antwood whilst waiting for ed sheeran who id never heard before, but i thought he played a good set.
