Castle sweetness

... At one of the stairs, one of the castle staff was yelling out something in Japanese. I proceeded up the stairs and then "Owwwww!" I hit my head on one of the support beams. I guess the guy was saying watch your head! At the top of the castles, there were some really nice views of the city. On the way down, we went on the moon deck. Apparently Matsumoto is only one of two Japanese castles with a moon deck. Must be really nice at ...

Night in Matsumoto

... some money on cab fare. Hopefully I can remember to ride on the left side of the street and the other vehicles remember to do the same. I'm also hoping that the rumors of English-speaking guides are true.

Adjusting my expectations... I had thought I'd zip through the castle and get to Kyoto early. Probably not. Everything takes longer than you think.

We heart monkeys :)

... There we spent the night in a ryoken- a traditional guest house with tatimi mats that you sleep on. The place was very old and our room was enveloped by cool paper sliding doors. The hostess poured us some green tea before she left and gave us kimonos to wear around the place. For dinner we went out and found ourselves in a Hawaiian restaurant- bit odd I know! Then we went back and slept on the floor.

Still Awake!!

Alright, so I ended up getting roughly an hour of sleep, but I think it was less since I kept waking up. I let one of the Japanese kids sleep in my room since he was locked out and ended up on the couch and then trying to sleep in one of the classrooms. After Nanami and I stayed up talking all night, I really didn't want to sleep that much. It was a lot to digest, but it was a lot of fun. Breakfast came and went and then we had a final Q&A ...

The Lakehouse

... a day of asking about Japanese culture, we decided to teach them some American drinking games. Beer Pong became an instant hit, with three tables going at once. My parter, Nanami and I ended up winning every game we played. While playing, we were able to find out a lot about each other. We ended up talking until almost 5 in the morning, learning a ...

Kamikochi: Total Washout--Literally

... without respite really irritate me completely and I came back on the bus rife with disappointment. Only gets worse when I found out that tomorrow's weather is much nicer and there's a festival going on, but you have to swallow the disappointment; as the Japanese might say, shigatanai (there's nothing you can do). Just a bad decision making process, though I blame partly the information office which was so, so off about the weather. Ended the night with a hot bath, some ...
