A visit to Frankfurt -- RYANAIRS Frankfurt

... to a dual carriageway. The coaches are invariably full as they transfer folk from Hahn airport to Main airport as well as the city of Frankfurt, where we arrived at 11am. October is the month of many celebrations and festivals in Germany; we found one in the centre of Frankfurt which was about the farming community and its harvest, but not a Harvest Festival in the Religious form. Its main thrust was showing where food ...

We stayed in a Castle.

... of course) and the Castle is on top of a huge hill (of course). Did I mention the cab was a brand new Mercedes?
At any rate, we got to our wonderful Castle and were hoping for no rain the next day so we could take a boat trip... no such luck. The rain has returned on our trip. Instead, we took the train up to Koblenz. The entire river is littered with castles. Most have them have been converted into hotels it seems. And the towns along the ...

Bingen and Rhine Cruise

... the WW1 sacrifice of the local reserve infantry division based in the town. It seems a bit sad that the Germans don't remember their war dead as we do in Australia. Yes they were on the losing side and there were atrocities committed (by both sides), but many of the soldiers fought just as bravely as their enemies.

Rhine

We shared our Rhine River cruise with lots of German ...

Mainz to Koblenz

... middle of town. So amazing and I see why it was highly recommended in the travel book. The pictures and movies I have do it no justice. Yet after I arrived at Koblenz I had to switch trains for Trier and then traveled down the Mosel to Trier and the Mosel River was just as beautiful with many more vineyards and rolling hills. I really love traveling by train.

Rhine River in Flames

Few events taking place in Germany will beat this one - the Rhine River in Flames. This refers to a fireworks event with a near 80 year tradition (since 1931) along the Rhine. Every summer, a 45 minute extravagant fireworks event takes place along the Rhine river in four cities and I have also included the upcoming event dates:

Bonn: 01.05.2010, 07.05.2011, 05.05.2012
R ...

It’s here that locals and tourists alike can benefit from the annual surge in temperatures, which might not match those of the Algarve, but will surely see frazzled Frenchmen reaching for their Ambre Solaire.

Elsewhere, two wheels are a great way to burn off the previous night’s indulgences - top of the range mountain bikes can be hired from Farhrradverleih from €3,80 per hour (+49 176 70148061, fahrradverleih ...

Philip's stag tour

Straight from finishing work with COLT, I went to V festival. No pics, and you can get stories directly, but I then flew straight out on Monday to meet Philip, Lawrence and Elias in Germany to catch up on Philip's stag do. The plan is a week-long tour through Epernay & Reims France (I missed that bit), Köln, Kerpen, Nürberg etc through ...

CONTIKI - RHINE VALLEY

DAY 42 - SWISS ALPS TO RHINE VALLEY Today we headed towards Rhine Valley. We stopped off at Heidelburg and saw the castle, which had amazing views of the town. I brought some cookie dough ice cream, which was the best:) We then stopped Koblenz to look at cuckoo clocks and real steins. Here we had dinner and then went for some wine tasting of the ...

Rhine Cruise

... to take the long trip. There is so much to see, it is all so amazing, the 6 hours seemed more like only 1. The river cruise is like a trip back in time to the middle ages. The castles on the cliffs, the small town's were all in a "who is cutest town" competition, and they were all tied for first place. The ship has plenty to do if you experience cute or amazing overload. There are severalto decks of different restaurants and places to watch the ...
