Waking up in Grein, the rain had stopped. A healthy breakfast, and off we went again. The rain had caused some flooding on some parts of the track, meaning we had to take a detour. We noticed one of the people riding alongside us had a dog in a cage on his rear rack. Poor dog. The idea of a bike trip is to enjoy freedom, but that dog will have none of that, ironically. This morning we headed off to explore Melk before our 30km bicycle ride to Durnstein. The town was a short 15 minute walk from where the ship was docked through a wooded area. The 900 year old Benedictine Abbey is the must see landmark here with its baroque architecture with gold leafs walls, 640ft imperial walls and frescos. Off to Artstetten in the afternoon - Franz Ferdinand's home - he wot got murdered in Sarajevo and caused the first world war.

this place is of great interest to the Austrians, but it was a Little under sold! Unfortunately we do stately homes so well in UK, other people's efforts often feel a bit below par!
