Today dawned bright and sunny, and relatively warm after the icy wind of the past two or three days, and it certainly made a huge difference to the appearance of the town. The sun sparkled on the wet cobblestone streets, and fairly bounced off the creamy brown brickwork of most of the buildings. The Ducal Palace is an impressive building near the top of one of the hills in Urbino and was closed for the New Year celebrations, so we set off hoping it was going to be opened today, but not really being sure. As we rounded the corner of the buildings we realised the door was open.....so today's itinerary was possible.

Just to finish off the entry for last nights New Year dinner, we were going to translate the menu for you, but thought sod it, why should we do all the work? After all, we are the ones on holiday!
Suffice to say, there was pasta, soup, wild boar, sausage, pork, salad, bread, vegetables and amaretto ice cream, in any order you wish to put them. Plus two wines coffee and water....

The atmosphere was great...it was just like sitting down to eat at the family table, everyone dipping in and out of bowls of the same foods, all being served at the same time, and chatting and laughing. The staff had everything running like clockwork and were so friendly.
