Destination 405

Not entirely shure, if I spend my last day in a foreign country, I head towards north. A stopover at Novi Ligure provides me finally the opportunity to send a notification to all family and friends about my remaining itinerary before return back home. The date has been fixed to the 29.
The ride up to Vercelly in the low lands was not that exciting like the sighting of the mountain of Mont Blanc in the far. Since my ...

The Matterhorn

I am only stayin the night just to see the Matterhorn. The sun is out and I took a hike up nearby hill. It was about an hour and a half uphill walk with regular short stops to catch my breath. I think I have had enough of hiking now, I did 4 hours of it at Montreux as well, I must have the best **** at the moment. Spectacular view of the mountain at the hilltop though. It's less of a mountain and more of a giant pinnacle of rock. It looks menacing, to prove it there is a nearby graveyard full ...

The 3 M's - Mountain goats, Maccas and Matterhorn

... let alone Europe, we ate Maccas for tea! Even Maccas cost us about $30 for each of us to have a burger and share a water and some wedges.

We then felt we needed something sweet to wash the burger away so we went and had a hot chocolate in a little Swiss chocolate shop and watched the town from their first floor window. Zermatt really is such a pretty little town, it’s the kind of town you would see covered with snow on a Christmas card.

Day 2 – ...

Back down from the Matterhorn

We woke "late" (8am) and were the last to leave our bunk. Skipping breakfast, we began our 5 hour journey back to Zermatt. We chose a route that would give us a different view of the valley, but involved 1800m of decent. We paid for it for the next few days. We arrived at our apartment and ...

Hike to the Base of the Matterhorn

Farmor agreed to watch Evie and Tyler for 2 days while Sue and Tom hiked to Hornlihut, the refugio at the base of the Matterhorn. Hornlihut is at 3200m directly below the Matterhorn (4400m) and serves as the base camp for those ascending the Matterhorn. When we called for reservations, they asked if we were ...

Egga, Switzerland - October 14, 2007

... my mind says Taters) to a ski town called Blatten (about 4500 elevation). I had stopped because I thought the road was getting too narrow and steep for my tastes. Well, the road to Egga is narrow and steep, with the apparent lack of guardrail's had me questioning my sanity-especially when I happened to look down. At one point-very near the top, I happened to look down and see the roof tops of the village below sent a shiver down my spine. Once ...

The Place I never wanted to leave....

... I looked back up the canyon and thought how the hell did we get down that. 20m repells, 15m slides and 15m jumps all in a canyon that, with the autumn leaves, resembled a postcard. To Dicko, Jordan and Frenchie - what a brilliant bunch of guy to kick around with for near on a week. Katie and Ang, couldnt think of any better people to throw myself out of a plane or onto a canyon wall with. All the best with your travels guys, if you are ever in Adelaide, you know the story...

Zermatt and Interlaken

... Beautiful, clean, peaceful, adventurous, and expensive are just few of the adjectives that best describe Switzerland. After Florence, I took a train north to Zermatt, Switzerland the base city of the Matterhorn. The day was incredible and perfect! I was dreading the fact that I had to spend it in the train; I couldn't wait to get into the Swiss Alps and just enjoy Mother Nature. I arrived into Zermatt around 5:00pm and was exhausted, so I decided to have some ...
