... town of Airolo were tough enough, with steep climbs through long tunnels before the inevitable road-work traffic lights just had to happen on the steepest section of the road. I was never going to make it through on time, but I think seeing my valiant effort meant the cars waiting didn’t mind....or perhaps not. Airolo wasn’t really the place to stop for lunch, more a maze to navigate as quickly ...

As we head to Italy and to Bellagio - where I'm sure it will be very different- it is good to take the time . ...to be still, to be inward focused and to be replenished...before we move on to a new place with its stimulation. A reminder of how much I really need and desire both - the peace and inward focus, as well as the excitement and outward focus- it's all about getting the balance ...

Hard to believe it is summer here when we are surrounded by snow capped mountains and rugged up to keep warm! I had to ask the owner of the apartment to turn on the heating since it was so cold last night...
Today we had a beautifully scenic drive through the villages nearby and up to Grimselsee Pass (2160metres) and then down the other side. Lots of very winding steep narrow roads, and at the top we were in the clouds with ...

... The GPS typically has to take a minute or two to “get a lock” on the current location. As it turned out, I was heading in the right direction, and within a few minutes I was at Hotel Oberland. After getting settled in my room, I went down to the Lobby to tell the staff that I would have dinner at the Hotel tonight (they require reservations, as they’re usually full).

There is apparently a Rick Steves “My Way” ...

... revolving restaurant. We got a table on the window. Katie and Grant ordered oriental noodle soup and loved it. I had the goulash soup. We actually got to use a bit of our German with the waitress, who accepted our Bittes and Danke sheins.

From our window view we could see all the way to Interlaken. We could also see storm clouds rolling in. Our very helpful receptionist (she might have been the owner as well) at the hotel,told us that rain was expected today ...
