... of time and settled in for our 2 x 1 and 1/2 hr train trips. Two things that have amazed us here are 1. The number of vineyards and grapes - they are everywhere! Soooooo many grapes, no wonder local wine is cheap here. 2. The number of castles - if there is a flat or even a small ridge or shelf up high there is a castle on it!! Our Tyrolian adventure is over as we have now travelled from North to South ...

... mountain chalet to old Italian. We decided that as we had walked down all the way we should catch a bus back to Pergine to explore. We now realise that everything shuts for lunch here from about 12.30 to 4pm. ... a castle hill, through some tunnels and vineyard paths. It was here that a fence jumped out and attacked Sue. She now sports a few grazes up and down her arms and face. In Kaltern Sue followed a path where Bryan who was leading had turned off. She soon realised and stopped thinking someone would find her. Bryan rang Annabel and told her where we would meet but forgot to ask if Richard was with her. He was not so it was quite surprising when Annabel turned up ...

After lunch we visited Runkelstein Castle, a medieval fortress built in the 1200's. It's main claimm to fame is the large number of period frescos painted about 100 years later. After various periods of disuse and damage, the castle and frescos were restored for public viewing in 2000.

What at made the biggest impression on me were the references to King Arthur and his knights of the round table. There ...
