... to leave RSI and then spent the next hour, courtesy of Gilly's satnav, trying to get out of Strasburg over the Rhine and into Germany. We had a nice tour of some back streets, cul de sacs and housing estates before we managed to find the main road and crossed into Germany.

We then headed south riding through the the towns Offenburg and Rottweil, the Black Forest where it became hilly with a lot of forest. The roads were ...

We steadily climb for most of the morning reaching a height of just over 3000 feet and into spline meadows. As we drop down towards Lake Constance the rain turns to showers. Shopping for food is always interesting outside of your own
country. One thing is for certain, meat is a luxury here. Firstly it has no
fat, they remove it all, and secondly the prices are quoted in Swiss Francs per
100gms. Price per Kg would be just too scary. If you like cheese, this is the
place to shop. There must be a thousand different cheeses available. I LOVE
    CHEESE.

Today is Grandfather’s 80th birthday and since
Corinne has recently turned 21 it was decided to celebrate their birthdays
together at a fancy restaurant in Gottlieben which is a beautiful old town
situated on the banks of the Rhine.

After a quick breakfast Stef, Jan, Corinne and I cycled out
to the town of Steckborn where we met the gang of relatives and jumped on board
a boat which took us down river ...

Tunnels, more tunnels, and theatre on the lake

... reading the signs, we were very nervous!

The bike ride around lakefront was lovely. The place was buzzing on the Sunday afternoon. We found the massive outdoor theatre especially created to stage major productions over the summer. The set (dominated by three huge dragons) was in the lake itself. A little more involved than Thames Musical Theatre productions! We would have loved to stay to watch but needed to get to our next stop - Friedrichshafen, back in ...
