Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Villas Los Angeles Manzanillo

      Delightful Thanksgiving getaway

      from

This was where the various branches of my family scattered across the US came for a Thanksgiving "reunion."

It was just what we hoped: a convenient location, on a high knoll for privacy, sparkling clean, helpful hosts Michel and Patricia, beautiful views, lots of options for toddlers to teenagers. Tasteful but not so fancy that you worry about children.

Many of the units can become multi-room suites so that a half-floor becomes a family unit for the holiday. In our case we had 5 units with convenient access but room for everyone to retreat. Internet access for those who needed it.

The pool is lovely with waterfall, nooks and flowers/landscaping for lots of private spots and open sky in all directions. There is a BBQ area next to the pool and table, so pleasant we cooked dinner there almost every night.

We would highly recommend it to anyone.

      Would go back!

      from

Hotel Villa Los Angeles is situated on a hill with a lovely setting. It has a fabulous view and the property is well maintained. The villas are clean & well appointed with flowers and a fresh fruit bowl upon arrival. It has 26 units and was quiet at night which was lovely when you sat on the deck watching the sun sink into the ocean. The pool is a good size and is cleaned daily. The hotel is located near the beach, restaurants and shopping. We walked to the grocery store and taxied back. Patricia and Michel are usually near by and are outstanding in helping direct you to a restaurant or tour guide. They make you feel welcome as though you are a friend visiting their home. Also, the staff is helpful and never acted put out when you asked for something! We loved the area and found the people to be warm and friendly.

We can't wait to go back and would stay at the Hotel Villa Los Angeles again and again!

      What a wonderful hotel!

      from

We had a wonderful time at Hotel Villas los Angeles. It is a small, high quality boutique hotel with friendly and helpful owners, who have a team of responsive and obliging staff. We stayed in the new villas which are extremely spacious, clean and well equipped. They all have amazing views, air conditioning and high speed internet. All in all, with the swimming pool and the nearby beach, this was exactly what we were looking for in terms of a long working, but relaxing vacation.

¡Increíbles vistas! No te pierdas el Hotel Villas Los Angeles

      from

      Relajante hospitalidad

      from

      Relaxing Hospitality

      from

Truly a great location to relax and enjoy all the finest qualities of Manzinillo with the attentive hospitality of the owner, his wife and staff. In contrast with the isolated resorts, Villas Los Angeles offers wonderful opportunities to truly experience the best of this part of the world -- local cuisine at restaurants and from vendors, swimming, snorkling and diving from the nearby beach (and relaxing in the pool), and room to spread out and enjoy the view. The owner, Michel, gave good recommendations on shopping and getting about, which is easy by taxi -- he even helped get excellent cerviche from just the right place! Quite a contrast to a nearby resort where conferences are held. Perfect place to get out on your own, relax, and proceed at your pace.

Villas Los Angeles - I highly recommend it!

      from

I have visited Manzanillo many times over the years trying out different hotels until I found Villa Los Angeles. I've been back a few times now. During my last visit in August '06, I arrived from San Francisco, CA by way of Cd Guzman, Jal where I collected 10 family members to join me. When making the reservations, Michel and Soccoro were exceptionally helpful and patient answering my slew of questions and making their recommendation to ensure a memorable visit. Upon arrival and throughout our stay, everyone was sincerely helpful and pleasant.

Everyone loved it! I reserved the Penthouse (217) and two additional rooms (one adjoining). All rooms were spacious, airy, comfortable, and nicely appointed. The Penthouse was especially wonderful with spectacular views from the master bedroom, living room, and balcony. The Villa's are whitewashed and the area beautifully landscaped. Whether you are at the pool, laying back in the living room, or sitting out on the balcony, you are relaxed and at peace...rain or shine.

The Audencia beach is a pleasant and short 15 minute walk down the hill -- exceptionally breathtaking in the early morning. The water is warm and quite suitable for swimming. While at the beach we took advantage of the independent vendors offering water sport rentals and scuba/snorkel outings. Everyone enjoyed themselves and felt quite safe in their hands.

Without a doubt, I'll return to Villa Los Angeles and will continue to recommend it.

      Beautiful Hotel - Wonderful People

      from

My wife, two small children (boy/girl twins, age 71/2) spent ten days in mid August at Villas Los Angeles on the Santiago Peninsula in Manzanillo. The hotel was everything we could ask for and the owners Patricia and Michel were very gracious and went out of their way to accommodate us. Their recommendations regarding beaches, attractions and restaurants were very helpful and informative. The hotel itself is located on one of the highest elevations in the Santiago Peninsula and the views from the rooms are extraordinary. We had a suite (#106) with the kitchen, dining room and big balconies on the upper floor and the two large bedrooms (with Jacuzzi tub) and bathrooms on the lower level. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the rooms are very clean. The high speed internet connection in the room (which was important to me for keeping in touch with the office in California) worked like a charm - plug the computer in and you're on the internet. Bottled water was provided and bedding was changed daily. The kids really enjoyed the pool, with its waterfall, island and unique design and we could watch them from the comfort of the balcony.

La Commercial (as modern a supermarket as you'll find anywhere in the states) located in an indoor plaza with small shops and restaurants, is a short cab drive and ATMs are easy to find and use. Just walking around La Commercial was fun.

Getting to the beach (Playa Audiencia - where the movie "10" was filmed) was a short walk down the hill (about ten minutes) and the kids could easily make it (although there was some complaining on the way back up when it was really hot). My daughter got her hair completely braided there for about $20. The beach itself was very nice with umbrella stands (with beach chairs and small table) available for rent for 80 pesos for as long as you wanted to stay and banana boat rides, snorkeling equipment and jet skis were available to rent (banana boat ride about 50 pesos each). Once under the umbrella the beachfront restaurant staff would provide food and beverage service - very relaxing. Taxis were easy to come by (the hotel staff would call for one when we needed it) and they always arrived promptly. Getting around via taxi was easy, convenient and inexpensive, the typical cab fare being around 35-50 pesos. There is no restaurant in the hotel and we did not go to any of the restaurants in the nearby high-rise hotels (El Tesero & Las Hadas). Going out required a taxi, but the restaurants we went to were all no further than a 10-15 minute cab ride. While there were many good restaurants (El Chipotle, El Fogon, Potofino's Pizza (good pasta on the beach), Hotel Colonial and La Toscana (also right on the beach)) the dinner at La Pergola was excellent!

A short trip cab ride took us to Playa Boquita a long beach with a shallow tide (popular with Mexican families) with several ramadas serving food and drinks. The fish tacos at Tonilos were excellent. My kids know very little Spanish but had no problem meeting and playing with the Mexican kids despite the language barrier, and despite my halting Spanish I never had a problem communicating - the Manazanillans were uniformly friendly, courteous and helpful.

Breathtaking views! Don't miss out on Hotel Villas Los Angeles!

      from

We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend Villas Los Angeles to anyone! The photos on the site lured us, but they hardly do justice to how nice this place is! Our 1-bedroom villa was spacious and well-appointed, and a good value. The pool and surrounding patio area might make you forget to go to the beach. Stunning views of the bays and the city from our terrace and the pool area. The rooms and grounds were very well-maintained, staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. Owners and some staff also speak English. We hope to return again.

Excellent Get Away at Villas Los Angeles, Manzanillo, Mexico

      from

Just returned from a month's stay at Villas Los Angeles in Manzanillo, Mexico and it was an exceptional stay. The Villas are located on the Santiago Peninsula, on one of the highest spots, overlooking the ocean.

Staff and personnel are friendly and efficient - the owners are bi-lingual and excellent sources of information for the town and surrounding areas.

Excellent restaurants are near-by as are two major grocery-mixed merchandise stores with ATM's.

Easy access, ample parking, beautiful pool, lovely, extremely comfortable rooms with magnificent views and air conditioning. Persons staying here are a nice mixture from throughout North America.

Bottled water is always available in your suite and maid service is twice a week. Kitchens are well stocked and the furniture is fresh, clean and well kept. Cable TV is available but is limited to four English channels, should that be a major concern for a family.

We will definitely stay here again. Most of the folks that we met while staying here were return customers. An excellent location and facility. Highly recommend.

... learned our number vocab well had we? Wendy rose to the challenge and although his English was fine he gave us a refresher. W loves that sort of thing. Must be her TESOL background. The two cans of Coke cost us 20 Pesos or $1.60 for two! We also bought postcards but finding the post office was most unsuccessful as we tried our very limited skills with a non English speaker. We just couldn't get post office across not in the list of vocab we had. All lots ...

We actually were quite close to Barra de Navidad, Melaque and San Patricio so we took our bathing suits and headed there for a day. We have been to all of these places before but it was nice seeing them again. We have such nice memories of spending New Year's eve at the turn of the Century with the girls in Barra, and laughing until I cried, after a bathroom sink fell on the floor in the Melaque hotel ...

... We drove to Guadalajara last Saturday where we boarded the Tequila Train that took us to the distillery of Herradura. Fascinating place. Jen and I have drunk more Tequila in the last week than we have in the last thirty years. I am now officially over Glen telling me "Tomale (Tom-a-lay) ***** which we have been told means "Drink up *****". Charming. I don't seem to be able to find this translation on Google so I am picking it might mean something worse. We ...

On the way back from Comala to Colima, Chico pointed-out these “beautiful” retirement condominiums and suggested we should all consider retiring in Mexico as they would love to have us. He said the condos were only $50,000 – good deal, good deal – he said. They were covered in graffiti.
