One week in mexico in the bag. The first few days were rough with the time change but we are on local time now and Nev is taking naps at the normal time, more or less. As with most surf adventures I just missed a great swell. We spent 3 nights in melaque where the beach was head high at the shoreline and crashing loudly throughout the night. It is not as hot as I expected ...

Melaque

A travel blog entry by benneal

The ATM in Barra crashes worryingly and so we have to visit Melaque further up the beach. Its a little quiet and dilapidated and out of season but they have great street tacos. We try our first Michelada (beer with salt and juice - great for hangovers) and play Angry Birds on touchscreens on the back of the bus seats as we leave - very high tech!

... Took one of the many launches over to Grand Bay Resort for the best Margaritas in Mexico and Mahi Mahi. George had the bacon wrapped Shrimp in Basil cheese sauce. Both delicious. We were virtually alone at the big luxury resort. We had seen a very beautiful and large sail boat go out two days in a row and made ...

... right across the street from Starbucks and next to Walmart. After a walk around town and a quick trip to Walmart for supplies, I settled in for the night. My friend, we'll call him Bob, arrived at 3am.

The next morning after breakfast we witnessed a most unusual sight.
These guys climbed on top of the palm trees with a sickle and started hacking away at the flowers and branches. Apparently coconuts are dangerous for pedestrians and they like to ...

... eventually, more rocks… and decided to leave the area alone and build the shopping center to the left of the ruins. To date, only 2% of the 320 acres of ruins have been excavated. They were still finding new buildings on the site in 1995 & 1996. Frankly, they don’t have the money to even properly take care of the grounds they do have available for viewing so who knows what really lies below the service on all this land??

    Delightful Thanksgiving getaway

    from LCinVT

This was where the various branches of my family scattered across the US came for a Thanksgiving "reunion."

    Would go back!

    from USAFrancine

Hotel Villa Los Angeles is situated on a hill with a lovely setting. It has a fabulous view and the property is well maintained. The villas are clean & well appointed with flowers and a fresh fruit bowl upon arrival. It has 26 units and was quiet at night which was lovely when you sat on the deck watching the sun sink into the ocean. The pool is a good size and is cleaned daily. The hotel is located near the beach, restaurants and shopping. We walked to the grocery store and taxied back. Patricia and Michel are usually near by and are outstanding in helping direct you to a restaurant or tour guide. They make you feel welcome as though you are a friend visiting their home. Also, the staff is helpful and never acted put out when you asked for something! We loved the area and found the people to be warm and friendly.

    What a wonderful hotel!

    from ian_mccarthy

We had a wonderful time at Hotel Villas los Angeles. It is a small, high quality boutique hotel with friendly and helpful owners, who have a team of responsive and obliging staff. We stayed in the new villas which are extremely spacious, clean and well equipped. They all have amazing views, air conditioning and high speed internet. All in all, with the swimming pool and the nearby beach, this was exactly what we were looking for in terms of a long working, but relaxing vacation.

¡Increíbles vistas! No te pierdas el Hotel Villas Los Angeles

    from anonymous

    Relajante hospitalidad

    from Travelr234

    Relaxing Hospitality

    from Travelr234

Truly a great location to relax and enjoy all the finest qualities of Manzinillo with the attentive hospitality of the owner, his wife and staff. In contrast with the isolated resorts, Villas Los Angeles offers wonderful opportunities to truly experience the best of this part of the world -- local cuisine at restaurants and from vendors, swimming, snorkling and diving from the nearby beach (and relaxing in the pool), and room to spread out and enjoy the view. The owner, Michel, gave good recommendations on shopping and getting about, which is easy by taxi -- he even helped get excellent cerviche from just the right place! Quite a contrast to a nearby resort where conferences are held. Perfect place to get out on your own, relax, and proceed at your pace.

Villas Los Angeles - I highly recommend it!

    from narias

I have visited Manzanillo many times over the years trying out different hotels until I found Villa Los Angeles. I've been back a few times now. During my last visit in August '06, I arrived from San Francisco, CA by way of Cd Guzman, Jal where I collected 10 family members to join me. When making the reservations, Michel and Soccoro were exceptionally helpful and patient answering my slew of questions and making their recommendation to ensure a memorable visit. Upon arrival and throughout our stay, everyone was sincerely helpful and pleasant.

    Beautiful Hotel - Wonderful People

    from BDSeibel

My wife, two small children (boy/girl twins, age 71/2) spent ten days in mid August at Villas Los Angeles on the Santiago Peninsula in Manzanillo. The hotel was everything we could ask for and the owners Patricia and Michel were very gracious and went out of their way to accommodate us. Their recommendations regarding beaches, attractions and restaurants were very helpful and informative. The hotel itself is located on one of the highest elevations in the Santiago Peninsula and the views from the rooms are extraordinary. We had a suite (#106) with the kitchen, dining room and big balconies on the upper floor and the two large bedrooms (with Jacuzzi tub) and bathrooms on the lower level. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the rooms are very clean. The high speed internet connection in the room (which was important to me for keeping in touch with the office in California) worked like a charm - plug the computer in and you're on the internet. Bottled water was provided and bedding was changed daily. The kids really enjoyed the pool, with its waterfall, island and unique design and we could watch them from the comfort of the balcony.

Breathtaking views! Don't miss out on Hotel Villas Los Angeles!

    from anonymous

We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend Villas Los Angeles to anyone! The photos on the site lured us, but they hardly do justice to how nice this place is! Our 1-bedroom villa was spacious and well-appointed, and a good value. The pool and surrounding patio area might make you forget to go to the beach. Stunning views of the bays and the city from our terrace and the pool area. The rooms and grounds were very well-maintained, staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. Owners and some staff also speak English. We hope to return again.
