Back to the coast to re-plan. The Mimosa campsite is lovely and just off the beach. We have our own private bathroom so after arriving just before lunch we decided we would do nothing for the rest of the day except enjoy the sunshine. The area is classed as the Southern Tyrrhenian coast and a popular holiday destination for Italians and their visiting American relatives (enormous numbers ...

The birthplace of Archimedes(you remember the book Mr Archimedes bath) and chosen island for Mafia. There are quite a few mafia type souvenirs around the little shops, along with lava from Mt Etna, which was smoking satisfactorily when we were leaving. Funny enough i ran into my friends mother who was traveling home to Spilinga as well. In the winter the town is the definition of ghost town. You walk from where we live which is at the beginning of the town to the end in a matter of minutes. If you walk in the town and an old lady or ...

... Sicily is a four lane freeway which is under construction, reconstruction and repair I would say for a good third of it. It is also a freeway with about 40 tunnels, followed by long loooong high bridges. Basically you run through mountains, then over river valleys and then once in a while drop to flat valley bottoms. Hillside towns run along beside you for part of the way, interspersed with rolling hills of olive groves, some vineyards, the occasional sheep herd and ...

... over so much! Also, not only is the touch screen unit on the backs of the seats pretty short on choices, both mine and Rob's are defective. Movies and TV shows play but the voices all sound like Donald Duck. So I sit here writing and listening to the playlist that Meghan and John loaded onto my ipad for me. A first for me, I actually think I slept a bit. The headphones must block out some noise and the music must have calmed my ...
