... it, and then it decided to take us through a tiny mountain village where the roads were so narrow we barely had a couple of inches on either side of the car !! So all in all some exciting moments, but the best bit about the trip was the scenery yet again - breathtaking ...
... is still a big hotel at the top of the hill with amazing 180 degree views of the coast - but it is now completely derelict. We air wheeled up there to explore and it's a real shame that it is no longer used as it is in a fantastic location - and apparently it used to have a swimming pool on the roof too ! We were also lucky to have another nice sunset down on the beach so yet more sunset photies coming up ...

It was the statue Il Redentore which was literally on top of the mountain, with a platform specially built for it, and the small church next to it, complete with a hair-raising bit of track on stilts to get up there. we travelled to San Giovanni and on arrival had some difficulty finding the hotel but after about 20 minutes and help from a local "Mama" we did, We had to bang in the door and the home tel and restaurant looked pretty closed. A prospect of four trains today was reduced to three as we had negotiated with Katia for her father to kindly give us a lift to Martina Franca instead of the proposed train as our connection was incredibly tight and we couldn't afford to miss our ongoing train to Taranto. From there, another train to Salerno where we then pick up a final train to Taormina. The whole journey would last the whole day and it was all about timings. I had enjoyed our time ...
