... own towels, soap and toilet paper because they don’t supply it. No private rooms, of course, usually 6 people in a room. Since the food is so bad Italian families bring tons of food to hospital patients. They also stay at the hospital 24 hours a day because they don’t trust the nurses who are usually chatting, drinking coffee and smoking.

... little Fiat had an interesting characteristic that was becoming quite annoying, for me. Everytime my speed went over 130 kms, it would give off a short beep letting Linda know that I was going "too fast". Eventually, after a little experimentation, I realized that the beep only sounded once at 130 kms. Accelerating beyond 130 kms did not cause additonal beeps to occur....hmmm!. I have a few days to catch up on. No wifi in Sorrento so no blog. An amazing drive from Lecce to Maratea - such dramatic mountains and valleyys and such winding roads. ... that was closed the other night, which Enzo, Adriana, and Federico all say is the best gelateria in Calabria. They weren't lying. The pistachio gelato was so good it actually made me sad--because I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy pistachio ice cream ever again, it will always be a let down compared to this.
