... out to be really nice. We could have sat there for ours drinking the local beer... Brugse zot. It was delish. We reminisced over dinner about some of the 'Griswald moments' of the day. And then decided to call it a night and headed back towards the B&B. it's been a long and busy day as you can probably tell by my novel.. But we're looking forward to exploring Bruges already and can't wait until tomorrow when hopefully the rain will stop for 5 ...

... wonder the roof of the shop was adorned with clogs all over it, would've taken him half a day. After the presentation, we had a bit of spare time to wonder through the town to the other side, where we'd be catching a boat to our next stop. Marken is set on a harbour, which is set on the second largest lake in Europe. Only it wasn't always this way. Turns out the Dutch do get this thing wrong occasionally. Apparently the 'lake' used to be the ocean, but to stop the tides ...

... I got completely soaked despite my coat, hat, and umbrella. I decided to wave the white flag and head back to the hotel. And, of course, as soon as I got into my hotel room, it quit raining! The weather here has been interesting. There has been A LOT of heavy rain which makes the sunny days tough because of the humidity. You also cannot reliably predict what the weather is going to be like the next day...makes me miss ...

This was our first port. Princess provided free bus to take us to the train station where we could take a trip into the heart of Amsterdam. We didn't book a tour and it was so easy to find a canal tour we thought we did it right.

... everyone speaks English! it is compulsory to learn at school and when they get to high school, kids get the option of learning French or German. I could have spent another couple of days in Amsterdam, but sadly Ireland was calling so we had to move on...

Thanks to Neville and Denise for the hotel recommendation - it was pretty good!

Now for a week driving around Ireland - on the right side of the road! Yay!!
