... the castle, where I stop for coffee. It's very steep and my legs are feeling it. I carry on and eventually come out at tiny little lakeside town. It's a beautiful (though a bit difficult) walk with magnificent views of the lake from up high. More photos. Back down lakeside, I head back towards Varenna. I stop at Hotel Villa Cipressi for late lunch. Spaghetti with duck ragu and porcini mushrooms. ...

... That seems a bit odd. Not sure where the sand would come from. Probably just my eyes. We pass through lots of little villages which are very agricultural. It's so much more satisfying going by train than flying. It's not a cheap way to travel though. A Eurail pass would be the way to go if you're moving around a lot. ... right on the water. A beautiful entree fish caught in the lake served in a variety of ways was followed by some gigantic pizzas for Sue and Phil and some pasta for Louise and Sophie. We missed the last bus for our trip back to Bellagio but the waiters organised for the owner to take us back to Bellagio himself. Great food, great service and a nice chat with the owner on the way home was the perfect way to end another great stay in beautiful Bellagio.

... weather, I've been lucky. I've looked at the weather forecast for Auckland, does it seem any different from when I left? So I made the most of sitting in the sun on the lakeside waiting for the return bus. The traffic was dreadful getting back to Italy, all those Italians going home after work I guess. Presuming they pay tax on their Swiss earnings, I wonder how they contribute in Italy (where they live) as Switzerland of course is not EU. ...
