I called too much shopping on day 5 of the trip and opted to start the morning trying to send a package back home. I scored a carton from foot locker the night before but couldn’t track down a packing tape and a marker no matter where I tried. In the end we improvised with bandage strapping tape and biro - think it will make it home?
We headed off to Verona, a 2 hour drive from Milano. The Garmin got us lost again so this time I trusted google maps to navigate us to ...
What a lovely place, oozing architecture and old Venetian style - it was lovely! We drove, it took around 40 mins and headed straight into the tourist area. Parking was limited & after asking (we didn't want another tow truck!) a helpful couple on their moped showed us where to park in the centre. We were right next to the street where it is said that Juliet's balcony is (although I gather the balcony was built in the ...
... of the same sights I had seen earlier, his comments and stories made it that more interesting. To end our tour he took me down a winding alley to little wine shop to meet the owner and sommelier, Antonio, who let me try numerous wines of the area. He showed me his pride and joy; bottles worth thousands of Euros while showing me photographs of famous people who had come to see his shop. Andreas ...
... spin on climate change, but stuff is happening all over Europe. Any way we waited for a while under umbrellas and in our ponchos, but in the end, we had to leave just after half time. For now the Aida drama had to wait. But outside in Piazza Bra a different drama had been unfolding on the TV sets tuned to the World Cup. 'Mamma mia!' Germany was beating Brazil 7-0, just before full time. The world would definitely never be the same ...
... harbour would be good.... By the time we got back across the lake the wind was now strong, we had taken in a lot of sail and the waves were building. Soon the engine went on and the sails were down and we were heading for home. We had a rather exciting time picking up our mooring buoy but soon a very welcome rib arrived to take us to shore. In fact Charlie stayed aboard to help the boat man moor up ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Villa Rosa Hotel Desenzano Del Garda
Hotel Villa Rosa - 'excellent'
We stayed for a week at Villa Rosa from 21st to 28th July 2007 and loved every minute. We cannot give a bad report about the hotel at all. Modern, very clean, (linen and towels changed every day) and very helpful staff. We paid for a junior suite with a balcony overlooking the lake and were chuffed to bits! Even the small pool never got over-crowded and we travelled peak holiday time. Breakfast was great and you can eat at the poolside at lunch time if you like although it's so close to the town, you don't really need to. Definitely recommended (for couples or families) and definitely going back!
We stayed at the Villarosa hotel in Desenzano last weekend (Fri to Tuesday) July 07.
Travelling with 2 other couples, we took a chance on this recently renovated hotel (there had yet to be any reviews written as the hotel reopened, I believe, just last April). It was very nice. the rooms were modern--beds comfortable. The pool and area around it were very pleasant. It's a "green" hotel and your hotel key card gets inserted into a slot inside your room in order to keep the lights and tv on. Rooms all have balconies, mini fridges, nice bathrooms and flat screen tvs. The breakfast was quite good--served from 7:00 to 10:00--cheeses, hams, yogurt, cereals, eggs to cook, lots of sweets, juices, and a great coffee machine! There is a very nice terrace/porch facing the lake with tables and chairs. The staff was very pleasant--the outdoor parking is free--or you can park in the underground garage for 5 Euros a day. The lake is right across the narrow street; there are lots of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Stylish modern hotel
Stayed at the newly modernised Villa Rosa for one week, good location in fashionable Desenzano, loads of great places to eat espiecially Al Fattore .Good for couples, very clean , nice pool, air-con rooms, car parking , one down side we had to pay for the pool towel so........ BYO!! Everything you would expect form a 4* hotel
A pleasant and quiet place in March
Stayed in the Villa Rosa with my sister for two nights (19-20 March 2005). The hotel is, like everything around Lake Garda, is trapped in the early 80's. Accordingly, decor is a little lacking (neon-blue theme has never been in) but the high ceilings and balcony were nice.
Hotel is clean, safe, quiet, right across the Lungalo street from the lake, and just a five minute walk from the center of town. The breakfast buffet is heavy on the sugary biscuit side and needs imporvement, but there is free internet in the lobby as a consolation prize.
For what we got, the hotel seemed a bit pricey to me, but its staff was always friendly and helpful (even printing off train sceduales). No serious complaints.
