... very nicely built and in the tiny town of Castellinaldo. Breakfasts were feasts, with many varied foods including poached pears, baked pears, and pear tart, all fantastic. There were various cakes and egg dishes and crème caramel which we suspected might have been left from dessert the night before at the restaurant but which we all loved.

... The hunter has to be quick or else the dog will eat the truffle. It was interesting to watch the dogs and hunter at work and we found 3 white truffles which have a strong garlic aroma. To be a truffle hunter you must be licenced by the govt and it takes a number of years to train the dogs. Back at the hunters home we tasted shaved white truffle on cheese. ... people on our trip who enjoy the drink they certainly thought it was good. The company uses the freshest pomace from White and red grapes. The grappa is aged in oak barrels for 9, 12, 15, 20 or 27 years. ... St Andrew, the civic square and the colonnade where the open market operates on Fridays. Our lunch was at a slow food restaurant, Osteria del Boccondivino, where the food highlight was rabbit cooked in white wine. Our accommodation is located neat Alba and is an Agriturismo Le Arcate which specialises in wine and hazelnuts which are used exclusively in Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
