... don’t think I took the last couple of km in much.

I got to Elafonisi about 4 so only had an hour to enjoy the beach there (stunning) before a bus back to Chania at 5. I thought about staying the night but because of my ankle decided against it. I wanted a bed and ice. Beautiful bus ride back. Next time though will hire a car, go straight to Elafonisi and spend the day enjoying it, and stop in the small mountain ...

... and walking along the shore. We decided to skip the other beach we had planned to visit and ended up staying at Elofonisi for about 5 hours before winding our way through the islands. For dinner the hotel helped us book a spot at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the harbor and sunset. We awoke late this morning still a little tired after our late arrival last night. I was just able to sync yesterday's post. Our hotel is an old Venetian building that has been beautifully renovated. We had the best yogurt I've ever had along with a huge variety of other items for breakfast in the charming courtyard. After breakfast we walked along the waterfront of the old Venetian harbor out to the light house to admire the ...

... lost. It is kept really well.

Chania was the setting off point for me to hike the Samaria gorge. An early morning bus (6am) to the top of the gorge (Omalos) (about 1 hour) and then a long walk downhill through the gorge. The first part was a long zig zag down to the base of the gorge ( from about 1300 meters). Then it was a 15km through the gorge going slightly down hill all the way (the way ...

... park, exactly 5 hours and 13km from the start. About 12 folks were sitting in the shade of a cafe/shack waiting to take a €1.50 bus ride for the last 3km out of the park and to the ferry. We decided to spend that money on ice cream, so we hiked to the minuscule town in 20 minutes to discover hundreds of tourists waiting for the ferry! Many of them had been there for hours after finishing the hike at the allotted times. At 5:30, ice creams in hand, we boarded ...
