... however, the surrounding countryside is pretty - vineyards everywhere and distant snow covered mountains. We detoured to Desenzano on the banks of Lake Garda. Clearly a summer holiday town but a beautiful town situated on the shores of a huge lake. The water is crystal clear. Lunch at local trattoria consisting of local trout - scrumptious, a walk around town, purchase of veggies and fruit from local markets and off to the autostrada. ...

We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. It's truly a must-visit city and I'd love to go back and see it in broad daylight. ...

We first went to try to figure out the busses and trains (Abby wanted to go to Pisa the next day) in the lower city. However, we were at a loss and gave up on that idea. We headed to the Citta Alta, which is the upper medieval city ...

... insanely gorgeous. The entire town was dead silent. No cars.. no pedestrians... no cafes were open... there were however, lots of runners! I guess when the streets are so narrow with race cars driving on them all day, the safest and best time of day to run is when they aren't there! The runners owned the streets, and it was beautiful to watch! I would have loved to tackle those hills! Pesky ...
