... and making sure we had everything we needed.
Just went and had a short walk around and baked trout dinner at Serum which was a cool little place like being in someones living room.
Went to a couple of bars afterwards and found out why it was so quiet in Split - Sunday is the "day of the dead" (the way the barman in the first bar explained it to me) which is the day of the year that everyone visits the graves of their ...
... were stepping off the ferry, hoards of people were shouting to us, “Do you need accommodation?!” It was all the locals who have sobes. They all wait at the ferry dock to “attack” tourists when they are walking off the plank. We then had to choose between three different people who had gotten to us, all trying to convince us to rent their place simultaneously. It’s really hard to listen to three Croatians who barely ...
Hvar, Hvar Island, Croatia mdaaAfter we left the park, the drive down to where we are now was spectacular, although a bit different than I pictured Croatia to be-it is a lot rockier and a bit more like what we thought Greece would be like. Our second campsite was just before the town of Zadar in a town called Nin; we pulled in and this funny little man came up to us-there was no way we could say no to his smiling face even if the campsite was horrible! Luckily ...
Seget Vranjica, Splitsko-Dalmatinska, Croatia armajor7... souvenir stalls, you begin to sense the scale and grandeur of the palace. Passing through the passageway, you reach the Peristil, or main square of the palace. The square is surrounded by ancient columns and the Cathedral of St. Domnius on the eastern side of the square. A black granite Egyptian sphinx acquired by Diocletian during battle guards the entrance to the Cathedral.
Local residents and tourists relax on broad steps along the sides of the Peristil, and ...
... a tennis ball with the fur ripped off, leaving a ball similar to that of racquetball. Five to 6 players stand in shallow knee-deep-ish water and from there it's essentially handball. You have to keep the ball in the air and hit it open palm to anyone not directly on either side of you. The fun is in the effort to not miss the ball.

... her summers there for the past four years. My last day in Split, I went to Trogir for the day and ran in to Rob . . . . and his WIFE!!! It felt a little awkward for me, but he didn't' seem to mind. Trogir was beautiful. It had a seaside promenade and a marina with a fortress in the background. It was nice to just sit and have a coffee, and watch the world go by. When I went to catch the bus to go back to Split, I went to the bus station, where the bus had pulled in to on our way to ...
Split, Croatia gayegibson... watching the activity in the harbour from our terrace. This is something we end up doing quite a lot - it's quite mesmerising sitting there looking out over the ceaseless activity of boats and ships going in and out, bare feet resting on the balcony wall, either eating breakfast, drinking a cup of tea, or sipping a glass of wine - during the day it's bright and sunny and at night the moon shines brightly and the city lights twinkle. Split is the major city in the middle Dalmatian Coast ...
Split, Croatia everardt... now had their own opportunity to light **** on fire. Things just got worse later as a Split player was sent off (questionable call, this ref was quite horrible) and soon thereafter, in the final minute of the game, they conceded another goal. The only plus to this was watching the Split keeper run 30 yards out of the box, grab one of his teammates who was on the ground, ostensibly as a result of being fouled, and yank him up and shove him in the direction of ...
Split, Croatia big_papi... Great intro to the place. We ended up in his apartment, where his parents were both comatose on the couch, and were directed to a small (but relativly nice) room near the entrance. It was all very strange, sharing their little bathroom and apartment... AND funnily enough, we could communicate with his parents better than him, because they spoke German?! German is acually quite common in Croatia- who knew?! Split was ok- but onto Dubrovnik for sunshine and swimming please!
Split, Croatia alexengel... policy and litigation seems non existent here,or perhaps lax, people ride scooters motorbikes etc without protective head gear and smoking is accepted in restaurants, buses, basically anywhere...I hope the accomodation doesn't collapse 'cause who do we sue if we happen to be inside at the time, I guess this is when the Australian embassy comes in to play:) I guess this lends itself to a sense of freedom that the locals exhibit here... we feel very safe here, more so than in Perth ...
