When Blake was done, we wandered deeper into the city's maze of narrow streets, eventually finding our way back to the city center where the market was winding down. We ate lunch at an Italian inspired restaurant (Trieste is less than 30 km away) with tables in the city square before returning to retrieve the mini-bus.

The next day we went into Venice. Very enjoyable ferry and approaching Venice from the water is magical and the way merchants have arrived for thousands of years. In our case we were only two of the thousands of tourists who take over the city every day of the year.

We just had an enjoyable wander around the city as we had seen the key sights of Venice when we last visited (2007). We found prices OK ...

... ones. The shops were also great – lace, glass jewellery and souvenirs. Needless to say some shopping did occur. We bought some jewellery and had a lovely conversation with the young Italian couple working there. Once again – any time we engage with the Italians they are very friendly and helpful.

We chose a restaurant called Trattoria da Primo, that seemed to have great seafood and went inside. It was ...
