Today we spent the morning in Rethymnon, a lovely town about 60km East of Heraklion. We like Rethymnon way more than Heraklion. There is a lovely market in the old town and a beautiful little harbour area whit loads of restaurants by the water. Highly recommended!!! ... feels like a small town, with a few cafe' and bars along the "high street" which leads you to the harbour where a pretty Venetian fortress stands tall and strong. ... it was also a complete waste of time and money. The audio tour was useless and simply played bad, Greek music most of the time. Everyone on the bus was irritated. We witnessed one argument between an angry Italian family and the bus driver that nearly came to blows. We were fortunate to actually convince the travel agent from whom we purchased our tickets to refund us, and hopefully to not sell tickets for that bus company to any other tourists.
