... sun shines and of course I will have brought all the wrong clothes! As I said, within 15 minutes we were whisked off for tea, then a walk to the local supermarket and a coffee in their favourite cafe, then a walk down to the beach, then back to their place for a meal - pork in tomato sauce with mushrooms and lots of veg. - and wine and port! All very pleasant. And ...
... to the majestic, red cliffs. Heavy erosion did indeed call for a lot of up and down hiking. 2 hours later, staring upwards at at a cliff that to me required mountain climbing gear to scale, I declared that it was time to walk along the surf. Walk we did. I allowed the crashing waves to cool my barking dogs with salt water that was not icy at all. We were now one town away from the outskirts of Albufeira, but up ahead I could see waves hitting rocks, with no ...
... ocean on our right, we could see a dirt road surrounded by trees on the other side of the beach. We pushed our bikes through the soft sand, climbed up to the wooded area, then kept biking East. What a good decision! So beautiful! Rarely did we see a car. We stopped to pick tangerines. After 10 kilometers or so, we took a road away from the coast, then on to a pain-in-the-ass highway with little shoulder, and headed back towards Vilamoura. After a while, we saw a road ...
... in the Old Town. It was not our plan to keep signing up for these tour group activities, but they have been fun! We are also booked next Saturday for a wine and cheese tasting. Anyways, fado is local folk singing, very sad and soulful and moving. The singer, a 19 year old girl, was great, as were her 2 accompanying guitarists. Photos attached. We arrived by taxi at 7:00, then left the bar (after a great 5 ...
We checked in to our one bedroom apartment at the lush resort at 7 PM, full of jet lagged excitement. The lobby bar is a fun gathering place with inexpensive drinks, games, and a setting conducive to meeting your fellow travellers. When home we have been playing tennis, ping pong, darts, as well as scrabble and cribbage. It was fun to stock our kitchen with the bare ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Vila Gale Marina Hotel Vilamoura
If you can't beat em join em!
Found the reviews most helpful and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Room on 9th floor did give fantastic view of marina. Took 7 mnth old and 4 yr old children and plenty of room for us all. Please note you can hire a fridge for a small daily fee, essential for me with a baby. Couldn't fault breakfast, it is the Algarve! Go to restaurant before 10am tho to avoid waiting. As for the sun beds, think its a dreadful shame but if you can't beat em join em!
Recently returned from this hotel and reading some of the comments certainly made us laugh - yes the sunbeds!
i took the time to read the reviews here before i went to this
Fantastic Hotel and location
My wife and i had read the reports on this hotel and hoped it was as good as it sounded, and we were not dissapointed. Fantastic hotel lovely views we were on the seventh floor, some rooms arent so lucky view wise so may i suggest you ask for see and or marina view.
Villamoura was lovely clean and tidy but becareful expensive....!
If your into golf its superb or just to relax by the pool you wont be dissapointed.
we booked with expedia and it was so smooth i recommend them to.
Night life in hotel was ok if your young then go out mainly older couples and golfers go here!
If you want to relax unwind and pamper yourselves this is a great place to start so go and enjoy it we did.
I have just returned from the Vila Gale Marina. On the whole I was very disappointed with this holiday. Firstly, to start off with we were allocated to a smoking room when we specified for a smokers room, getting stuck twice in a lift for 20 mins wasnt much fun either.
Wonderful. The staff were efficient and polite, cleaners were always smiling and hard-working, waiting and dining-room staff were wonderful, and the manageress is perfect in her job. Food was great, always lots of choice, (my only critisism, too much fish for a non-fish eater,) but spoilt for choice at all meal-times. Room had loads of storage space.
Just back from a weeks stay at the Vila Gale Marina Hotel in Vilamoura, good hotel with nice big clean rooms with excellent views of the huge marina there, and just a couple of minutes walk away. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Be warned if you arive on an early flight you may have to wait until lunchtime to check in. And you need to be up quite early to get a sunbed in the sun, as quite a large area round the pool doesn't get the sun till lunchtime. Hotel gets reduced rates on local golf courses, and transportation is provided. The prices for golf were at peak just as we left in mid-September. Vilamoura is lovely, spoilt for choice in resturaunts and some nice shops. Can recommed the 'Bella Italia' for fab Italian food, and the fish resturaunts are great and reasonably priced - try the Monkfish Cataplana! And the place is buzzing, good for people watching. Would especially recommend this resort for couples and golfers.
