Here in Bled, Jeff and I have met and fallen in love with the lovely Slovenian countryside. Bled is a small community that gives new meaning to the work quaint. Nestled below the Julian Alps and overlooked by Mount Triglav, Bled offers incredible natural beauty, and every outdoor activity possible (Lake Bled is the site of Olympic rowing team practice). Tito had a villa on Lake Bled, which is now Vila Bled, a classy hotel. Bled comes complete with a cute little church settled on an island in ...
Bled, Slovenia jlbarker
One of Slovenia's most beautiful spots, Lake Bled, with it's fantastic setting by the mountains, stunning turquoise water and picture-perfect little church on a little island in the middle, with a big castle overlooking the whole place. Most of the pictures are ...
Bled, Slovenia stevelegassickToday was a beautiful day--Happy Birthday Chris!! We spent the day hiking around Lake Bled. We got there early while it was still cool. Unfortunately we took a wrong turn hiking down from the castle and ended up coming down on the OTHER side of the mountain. Not a fun walk back around. It's very possible we crossed into Austria in this adventure. At least we got to see a couple small towns in Northern Slovenia. Otherwise, it was a beautiful lake full of swans and big fish.
Bled, Slovenia stafox... train station to the edge of the lake. Where is the town? Oh, there it is, on the other side of the lake, I guess I'm going for a walk!! Although it was raining, it was a very nice walk in beautiful surroundings. I can see why my research on the internet brought me to Bled. It is truly a beautiful place and under the sun, would truly be magical. I took several photos of the island in the middle of the lake as I walked, but the ...
Bled, Slovenia elaqid... time. Drove back to Lake Bled and had a few hours free time so walked around the whole lake with three ladies from the tour. Was beautiful. Halfway around we came across a local artist who did little watercolours of the island and church for €4. When you brought one he did you your own uniquie little painting on the back. Was cool. He was a nice guy :) Wanted to try the ...
Bled, Slovenia ka.duncan... connection with the country. We were just another tourist to the locals and the prices were relatively high based on what we had seen so far. Perhaps having both our bikes break down on us didn't help with making good memories in Croatia. I got my chain and front derailleur cable replaced in Zadar (excellent shop called Euro Bike, but don't bother going to the one in Rijeka) by a very good mechanic named Pave.... my bike now ...
Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia rbruce... give you a sense of the stuff that we were looking at...I promise you it is even more spectacular when you see it with your own eyes! We walked through Skocja and two other medieval villages nearby after visiting the caves and then we drove down to Piran at the Adriatic coast. A beautiful seaside village at the southern end of Slovenia's 13 miles of coastline. We watched the sun set from our dinner table and had a fabulous pasta with clams and mussels. Piran has been, in its ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia kevinandstephne... was loads of people around. Ree was feeling fairly sick, just a really bad cold so he stayed in bed for the night. The rest of us went out and it was a pretty good laugh. we just went to random pubs for the night and some of them were really good. the next day we just headed straight for the train station to get our train to munich
Ljubljana, Slovenia oconnorbren... with the locals. It appeared to be a family run operation and the one woman that was taking care of the whole restaurant explained the menu to us. I had a sort of Cordon Bleu Chicken dish - Sharon - I needed you here so that we could share. It was too big for me to eat. Jim had something called Pleskavica Pavla. It was a blend of pork and beef and was pressed very thin and then cooked in a sauce of mushrooms and cheese and then some ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia jimstephkrueger... Otocac, instead of driving any further in the dark. Day 256 - Friday 10th November - Plitvice Lakes and National Park - Croatia Wayne went and got a hair cut this morning (cause he was starting to get a pony tail and I told him there would be no mullets!!) and he came back looking like and soldier with a really short hair do... we soon realized that this town is actually full of army personal and this is probably the style that the hairdresser was most used to doing!! Then we took ...
