Day 35 Stockholm to Copenhagen

Day 35 Stockholm to Copenhagen Again enjoyed fantastic public transport transfers.... Metro truly amazing... computer controlled, fast and on time. Very good accommodation on the Stroget right in the middle of town. It mained while we walked from the Metro of course and we had trouble contacting the apartment owner but all was good in the end.

Time to play the tourist - without the clichés!!

... had been practicing my English and I was glad it was paying off and I went about my day and every time I thought about my fashionable encounter I smiled and had a little laugh to myself thinking about the fact I was complimented on my native tongue... Another touristy place I went to explore was the serene Assistens Kierkegård in the heart of Nørrebro as it is the final resting place of some of Denmark's most celebrated citizens, including philosopher ...

Halloween!

... sings into a candle stick. I thought "Hey, what the hell, could be a bit of fun" so I decided to do it. After going to the mall to purchase a candle stick & white underwear, and borrowing some socks and a large white shirt, I was in business.   That evening, we all met in one of the kitchens at Holger to show off our costumes & drink before going out to the Halloween party at a club called Pink. Some notable ...

Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN The following day we arrived in Copenhagen. Again the weather was perfect which may explain, in part, why I would say (at least at the moment) that Copenhagen is the most beautiful city I have ever visited. There are other reasons, though, than the weather. The consistency of the architecture is one. They have preserved the old buildings which are all of a height. New ones are built to the same ...

Day Six - Helsingborg

... wrote Hamlet based on the castle and the king's wife and family. The Garden which features prominently in the story was actually at another castle 3 miles away that was the residence of the former queen and her entourage. It makes me want to read it again so I can remember what was happening and where. Frederick the 2nds wife loved to dance, so he had an annex to the castle built that housed a 65 meter long banquet hall. (That's almost 200 feet to us Yanks) There ...

... to do a little exploring on our own. We met up with some friends from the ship and had dinner and drinks. We walked around the different strips of shops and cafes before heading to the central train station. Wednesday July 9 Today we got up early and took two trains to Malmo, Sweden. We went with three of our good friends Kate, Eden, and Abby. All together it took about two hours to get there. Malmo, Sweden is much like ...

... But you wouldn't catch me dead on a Rick Steves European Tour. The train is still late, let's see, hmmm... Oh yea, let's make fun of these people! Here they come, down the platform... not one, but two fanny packs a piece, she has a camera and they both have backpacks. It's not Rick Steve's luggage, but these guys might as well be screaming "rob me, take my vacation money please!" It's no wonder tourists are targeted in many large cities. Not that our giant backpacks are any more ...

My Things

... it was still very impressive, architecturally speaking. The zoo was good though I probably wouldn't pay to go. Melbourne zoo is about 50 times better. Still we got to view the nocturnal animals and this fairly rocked the proverbial Casbah. The bears, lions and wolves were stupendous! So, to alter my original summary; I would pay to go AT NIGHT...and maybe during the day, whichever. Some of you may also be aware (and some of you may not, and ...

My First Few Days

... German would help me ease into the language but this was not to be. German, as explained to me by my mentor is far more precise and clear in its pronunciation and apparently so is just about every other language. It may be mean of me to say but spoken Danish sounds a bit mumbled when compared to how it is written. I'm not passing judgement here and it is in no way a bad thing, I'm just trying to explain the distinct sound of a language gone ...

Last weekend in Copenhagen

... I flew in on Thursday afternoon to make our Copenhagen office dinner at the Carlsberg Museum. We had a whole beer tasting event (actually, none of it was Carlsberg!), which was very good. It was nice to be able to catch up with the Copenhagen people again before leaving. On Friday night, my friend Sarah got into town for the weekend. We went to dinner that night at a cute restaurant called Fru Heiberg up in Osterbro... one of those places ...
