... else it will be a really horrible flight. One particularly sad aspect of that is that it was a gift. It was Elaine & Rosemary's last few hours on the boat with us for this year and as always, they weren’t allowed to spend them peacefully. We had them out of their sleeping bags and into the showers pdq, as we wanted to wash their sleeping bag liners and towels before our turn came to leave Oulu for our trek homewards. ... of the way and it took us pretty much around the island. One of the more interesting encounters we had was with numerous amphibians – I encountered at least 9 frogs during this walk! It was lovely to see such a healthy population and presumably they do well at least partially thanks to the mosquito population – good work chaps, keep it up!

... all facilities were clean and absolutely fine. By the way, the charge, via an honesty box, for electricity, a good pontoon and more than adequate showers, was the princely sum of €5!

On our walk we failed to find the town, it seemed that we were in a small suburb and as it was a bit damp still, we turned back and then explored a little further in the harbour area, as there are two harbours, one for fishing boats and ours and it was in the former ...

... are different. Near to the boat there was a portable toilet, identical to those found on construction sites and the like in the UK. On either side of it were two acorn-shaped structures that upon closer examination were pissoirs. We were amazed to see, later that evening, queues of young women waiting their turn to use the toilet whilst young men sauntered up and relieved themselves in the pissoir, quite nonchalantly.
