... I said goodbye and headed out. My original plan was to follow the coast and camp around Vaasa, then follow the coast the next day to Oulu, but since I had gotten up so early I decided to go straight through to Oulu. Finland is a very beautiful and unspoiled country, there are lovely lakes and forests everywhere, and sometimes it's nice to be out on the highway cutting through the middle. ... the supermarket so that they could buy themselves some fresh made up salad for lunch whilst I sat in the café guarding luggage and updating the blog. When they returned and after a coffee together, it was time for Julie and me to leave them, to get the boat ready for our departure. As always on these occasions, it is a wrench saying goodbye to friends, especially ones that we have shared a huge amount of history together, the boat seems so quiet and empty. ... of the way and it took us pretty much around the island. One of the more interesting encounters we had was with numerous amphibians – I encountered at least 9 frogs during this walk! It was lovely to see such a healthy population and presumably they do well at least partially thanks to the mosquito population – good work chaps, keep it up!

... all facilities were clean and absolutely fine. By the way, the charge, via an honesty box, for electricity, a good pontoon and more than adequate showers, was the princely sum of €5!

On our walk we failed to find the town, it seemed that we were in a small suburb and as it was a bit damp still, we turned back and then explored a little further in the harbour area, as there are two harbours, one for fishing boats and ours and it was in the former ...
