Last Full Day in Andorra

... having a beer and watching a man try to dig his van out of the snow. To my knowledge his van is to this moment where it was when I left the bar.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to post some pictures of Canillo when it's snowy and the sun comes out. Don't have too many, but figured it was worth a post.

The Two Faces of Andorra

... at 7:30am. However upon arriving at l'Hospitalet all my fears were put to rest.

It's misleading that they call l'Hospitalet a train station, it would be more correct if they called it a gravel lot with vending machines. As I filed into the line to get off the train, eager to find the bus, I grew frustrated that the line wasn't moving faster. When my turn finally came to get off the train I noticed that the line continued straight from the train to ...

Change of Plans?

Found out today that the 90 day tourist visa that I thought we were granted for each country is actually for the combined Senchgen countries. Since we'll be at least 60 days in France alone, it means we won't be doing the France, Italy, Greece and then Turkey route we had planned on in the length of time we'd ...

Tales from the Pit

... the martin to enter, then the chickens could be moved back to their real home. Of course, that meant catching all 10 chickens and moving them back up the hill.

Brian was the best a catching them. He’d corner them in the barn and lunge, but no one wanted to touch that damn rooster. Last to be caught, Justin was lucky enough to grab hold of a leg mid air as he tried to fly over a partition. Once neatly inside the cat carrier I was ...

Brain Food

... and make 2.5kg of minced pork while I pureed the liver to make pate. Fat was rendered down to a beautiful smooth lard, and sausage meat was seasoned. It was a shame that we had no sausage skins to stuff, but the meat is still great to use in patties, balls or loaves.

For a special treat for working through all the meat, Justin saved a special piece for Brian and I: the brain. Fried up with sage and butter and ...

ANDORRA- #100 AND COUNTING

... 8230;

Andorra la Vella is a duty-free town in a duty-free country. I guess that’s its other claim to fame. The traffic jelly is pretty bad on a Thursday, and I imagine much worse on a weekend. There’s no particular border control with Spain, but returning to France might be backed up, what with cheap cigarettes and all. I look at the electronics, and price cameras, but naah… duty-free doesn’t mean ...

A land oft forgotten by cartographers

... onto a campsite, feeling a euphoria that is only properly expressed by those who have wandered the Sahara only to be rescued from the clutches of death by a heavenly oasis. This would mark the end of our journey. We found a perch, I read my book, and realised my love of temporary seclusion once more. The journey down was noteworthy only by the great lengths we went to to eat things of questionable afffect on our vitality. Day 20 Today, our last day in Andorra. The plans are ...

OFF-PISTE

... his video camera. I taped the guys going over a sudden, eight-foot drop in the land. Blond Pete tried to land the drop smoothly and use it to boost his forward momentum. But, he pretty much just collapsed to the ground once he made impact. Jony tried braking his way down the drop and tipped backwards on his butt. (Maybe we´re not ready yet to make an "extreme snowboarding" video just yet.) We reached a five-foot boulder which crouched unseen behind a forest hill. Brown ...

MAGIC IN THE MOUNTAINS

... t have time to search through his winter layers and find his watch, because our chair was almost already out of hearing distance. "Okay! Thank you!" said the Czech. Some Spaniards in the chair behind us yelled that we didn´t have a lot of time before I had to be back at work. We did a couple more runs. I was swaying back-and-forth on the board pretty good, changing directions with the confidence of a Himalayan rattle-snake. We neared the end of one run. The cute Czech ...
