    ... the hike at 6:20 and of course just of course me three minutes in I land on a cactus and get a cactus spike jammed right in under my skin on the knuckle. All I could think was whyyyyyy?! I have so many hours to go. It was throbbing so bad and already getting swollen but I wasn't turning back. Plus, the guides said I would be fine and it would fall out within three days, fingers crossed!! Going up the volcano I got countless I mean ...

    Landed at 1:30AM... Nobody speaks English ... But we made it through customs and got our one checked bag (the surfboards!)... Set up camp at the airport to wait for our driver (Lester) He is picking us up at 4:45. Stephen and Steve fell asleep on the floor... Bucky played look out and Charlie and Kiersten did a complete work out .... A local couple loved watching that! After a while we were all sleeping on the floor ...

    ... from even though they had our passports. Also it's weird how they treat people from different countries. Some like the uk were fine and they just bypassed us but the Germans, oh the Germans. The passport officer took about 20 mins on each German passport checking every single page and interrogating them. Finally we made it across and kinda similar to Kenya where they all just surround us asking for things or taxis or something so I probably said no gracias ...

    ... a few waves: playa Maderas, ten minutes by bus from San Juan, it’s said to be the best place in the country for surfing. In fact, the waves seem very powerful, but despite this the sea was not overcrowded with boards. The beach alone was worth the trip: we are no longer in the Caribbean, but sand and sea are beautiful anyway. We spent the rest of our time here trying to avoid sunburn and sunstroke, and enjoying as much as possible the spectacular hostel ...
