    ... the hide of unborn lambs, and the covers were beautiful thick leather with scroll work. The books were so big that they had 3 wheels at the bottom, and where pushed from one place to the next vs. being carried. The colors in these books are still vivid and it is hard to image that it is about 600 years old. The piece de resistance here was the Virgin de Guadalupe, who is considered the patron of Extremadura, that province/state we are currently traveling in. I was ...

    Our last meal in Portugal was a very rustic and typical one, in a tavern of Evora called Adega do Alentejano. I sampled the famous Porco Alentejana, which is cooked with clamshells, stir fried potatoes and lots of coriander and olive oil. The Alentejan red wine is not for the faint hearted though and my head is still spinning after its 14% of alcohol enhanced the pork meat's flavor and its spices. We ...
