    The four of us have now spent 2 days in Lyon and walked for miles. It is a decent walk of abour 2 km from where we are in inner suburban Lyon, across the Rhone and Saone rivers to the old city. Where we are is mostly 5-8 storey apartment blocks which range from 10-50 years old; it is a relatively quiet area and has only a smattering of shops.

    ... 2 little samples to take home. Once the tour was over everyone went shopping in the mustard store. I was amazed to see that many different variations of mustard. I didn't get anything, but everyone else bought a lot of mustard. While waiting for everyone to finish shopping, I sat outside chatting with a Rider student studying in Lyon that joined us for the day.

I had a three-course table d'hôte that consisted of a Lyonnaise salad that came with a warm poached egg on top, a salty-but-not-too-salty chicken fricassee with a mushroom sauce and rice, and a white (goat) cheese with strawberry coulis for dessert--and a 1664 beer. It totally hit the spot and was a good kick-off group dinner. We were all noticeably starting to fade by the end of that, and returned to our hotel by just after 7pm for the night.
