Sadly we trudged to the station, dragging our luggage, leaving behind Sorrento, our destination Venice. As we had another apartment in Venice we packed our leftover groceries....olive oil, pasta, coffee, sugar.....well Andrew did, in his backpack!! He also had a very heavy suitcase. He had come down with the cold and wasn't feeling one hundred percent. That will teach him for buying a big suitcase! I think by half way through today they ...

... gelato before heading to the train station. When we got off the vaporetto at the train station John realized that he had been pick pocketed! It must have happened in the crush of people in San Marco. He lost his wallet right out of his front pocket in his shorts - gone was 200Euro, his credit card, debit card and driver licence. We don't know exactly when our how it happened but it was unsettling. I was never so glad that years ago I had invested in my Tilley ...

... not when it was simply a tourist trap. It is sad to think that Venice is only home to about 60,000 people now, who mostly run the shops and transportation. The industry which once defined Venice has come to an end. It all felt to me like I was seeing the pretty facade of an empty building. The real Venice has disappeared.

After spending Friday wandering around the main island city, Marta and I got a boat ...

Doge's Palace and heading to Florence

Today was, sadly, our last day in Venice but thankfully I awoke before my alarm, feeling really quite human after a couple of days of feeling decidedly less in the morning!! We had a late breakfast (yes, ham and cheese toastie again!!) and Katie decided to have cornflakes with nutella (yuk!) as well. Words fail me - what IS she eating?

On a related note we were glad that the B&B served breakfast late - 8:30 to 10am. This suited both of us who are late ...
