    ... exchange students and their families in Pesé. Basically she wanted to protect me.Furthermore it is very difficult to find a family willing to host a foreigner. This is due to the difficult economic situation in all over Panama and food is not very cheap here. The prices are about the same as in Europe all though the electricity and water bills are less high. If we have a bill of 17$ for electricity that is a high bill.     ... of infection. That's where the rest of the tests came into play: malaria blood test, EKG, spinal tap, urine and stool samples, a number of further blood tests, and even a CT scan was performed in the next town over... in which they took me by ambulance. In the meantime, I was hooked up to IV's and antibiotics while many nurses and doctors tried to solve the problem.

    While in the hospital, there were definitely some noteworthy aspects.

    San José is the patron of Pesé. In his honour
    there were many events during that week. The streets were decorated in
    different colours. So we festooned the facade of the Fundación in yellow, since
