        We spent 3 days in La Spezia, the town closest to the Cinque Terre National Park, and 8 minutes by train to Riomaggiore, the first of the 5 (Cinque) villages. Other than on foot, the only way you can access the 5 villages is either by train or boat. There are 4 walks that connect the 5 villages and 2 of them have been closed since major land slides on 25th October, 2011 when several lives were lost.

        Today will hopefully mark the lowest spot of the holiday. It wasnt a success from the start (except for the arrival of the errant suitcase after breakfast which was a relief - especially for Matt who only had the clothes he wore to travel in (jeans and a long sleeved top) and the orange swim shorts he bought yesterday)

        ... crazy stuff. Due to the previous day weather forecast of rain the tracks are not crowded. Took about another 1 1/2hr to get to Vernazza.
