... finances. The graceful charm of the tango has sometimes become a dance that some citizens perform on the street for money. As in any big tourist city, Buenos Aires also has its fair share of pickpockets. My traveling companions Jim from Scottsdale, AZ and his two German-American sister friends, Elsa and Inge, were walking around Plaza de Mayo when a daring local couple coordinated a smooth pickpocketing ploy in broad daylight. They suddenly felt something wet, which was ...
Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina globetrekker... eyebrows I’ve ever seen. Those eyebrows were easily the most expressive part of his very, very expressive face. He made his eyebrows do the most amazing things during the songs. The other thing I loved was watching how much he obviously loved singing. After each song, while the audience gave their wildly enthusiastic applause, he would thank the crowed with the biggest grin on his face. It made me happy just to watch him be so incredibly ...
Caballito, Distrito Federal, Argentina ben_grainger... lions, tigers, leopards, monkeys, baboons and quite a number of snakes.

The subway ride back was untimely and typical of a rush hour journey, we were lucky to get on, despite this seats were offered to the children by Buenos Airians who were always polite and friendly.

Jody's Story
Today we had another Spanish lesson. We played lots of games like Guess Who? It was lots of fun ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina casebrownfamily... s Day, which turned out to be much bigger than expected. It would seem that it is one event celebrated worldwide (given its another excuse to drink), with more than a few camera and news crews filming outside the largest Buenos Aires Irish pub. Not at all what i expected. However tomorrow night shall indeed be the challenge of the week... its a twelve bar pub crawl, of which there is a whole story behind it that i cannot actually remember but has something to do ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina becstar26After taking our first overnight bus (cama-suite, fully reclining chairs, very posh), we arrived in Villa Gesell at about 7am. We decided to have a spot of breakfast (selection of medialunas and pastries, courtesy of the overnight bus) and then head out to find a bed for the night. Armed with a list of potential hostels we headed out from the bus terminal into the centre of town. You wouldn´t think this would be a problem considering Villa Gesell is only a smallish town, but ...
Villa Gesell, Argentina briandlorraine... can´t cope. Let`s get some fluids" "O.K... wine IS cheaper than water tho.. AND we are cost-cutting..." "Bottle of red it is then.... It´s HARD saving money..." "Indeed, mon amigo." New Years We had made some good friends at our second B.A hostel in San Telmo. We had some drinks in the social area and then headed to the river front (which is not too dissimilar to a small Embankment area of the river Thames). We had a few drinks on the front and watched ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina jimanddan...
Villa Gesell, Argentina benguigue... a samba band with 40 drummers paraded down Defensa Street, right in front of the B&B. It was awesome to watch. There was a large crowd and many were dancing or swaying along to the beats. Where else in the world would you have the samba, the tango and the flamenco all within the same square?! That evening, I took Willem and Marlous to Cafe San Juan (I just had to have that rabbit pate again!) and ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina velvetescape... We´re getting used to the way people organize their day. Last night when we went to dinner we had to walk around until 9 beforehand so that we wouldn´t be the first people in the restaurant. The craft fair in San Telmo was a trip, covering about 10 city blocks with street performers, fantastic jewelery, artists and antiques of all sorts. Kyle picked up a handsome leather "man-bag" and Patience bought some striking oxidized copper ...
Villa Gesell, Argentina kstuart... about them. Is it just me or are they all in some sort of mysterious dog gang? I´ve been followed, watched, and spied on by the strangest looking mutts. And you should see the weird ritual meetings that go on when one dog runs into a pack from a different part of town... Good thing we made friends with the tough dog. He kept us out of trouble.
