In former Communist countries as time goes by and evidence of the past gradually disappears, some of the last remnants are usually the buildings. A conversation later in the day confirmed what I'd suspected: south of the river nothing has changed. It's all as it was pre-1989.

... Stag party. I knew they were all together as they were all wearing Fes hats! They were funnier still as the were acting like they were really out there on the edge of the travel world, living on the edge staying in a hostel in Bratislava.

The delay in my departure has meant I now miss out on Prague, Weimar and Cologne but it is not a major disappointment as I got to do all the important things I set out to do when leaving the UK on the 26th ...
