    ... Beech trees. You can see what they looked like in the second picture showing the three pack horses.

    There were two dogs accompanying the group. Near where the second picture was taken, the dogs raised a hoopla and went tearing into the forest. A sad situation: they chased down a fawn and killed it as evidenced by the blood in both there months and front quarters.

It has what are called heel calks -- the ends of the shoe are bent outward to dig into the ground. On the last day of the ride, Michelle lost one of her rear shoes.
