Today I had an early whale watching cruise booked so I ate breakfast, checked out of my hotel, and walked down to the harbor. I had never been whale watching before so I was excited to see some whales up close. I boarded a small boat and we sailed west out of the harbor. After a short while we spotted a large group of at least a dozen humpback …

The explosive gases break through the lava surface in a manner similar to a phreatic eruption, and flying debris builds up crater-like feature which can appear very similar to real volcanic craters. - There you go. Our next stop was Akureyri, Iceland's ...

The property is located about 15 minutes from Sadurkrokur and as we need petrol we decide to go into town and get something simple to eat as well. We stopped at the Viking Cafe and had a coffee and a slice of meringue, which was lovely. Well the meringue was but the coffee came out of a machine . We nearly fell over when the lad told us that would be 5500krona. That's almost ...

The big drive to Skagafjordur in the north

Today we drove from the west to mid north. After breakfast at the Hotel Hellnar where we stayed for the night, we toured the Snaefellsjokull National Park. Because of the drizzle and rain, we could not do any hiking or go to the mountain top. This is the place that inspired Jules Verne's book 'Journey to the center of the Earth'. The park scenery was amazing. Many old lava fields with mosses and lichens of various shades of green ...
