... the beach was nice, a few people drinking mate, and we picked up a few shells. There are about 40 kms of developed shoreline in Mar Del Plata, much of it beach. There are many country clubs, and it seems everywhere you look the beach is lined with rows and rows of cabanas. Martin explained that people will rent a cabana for their holidays and then spend most of their days there on the beach. Running from the water to the shelter of their cabana, ...

... In front of these buildings are two statues of sea lions - the symbol of Mar Del Plata. We then headed back to the hotel. We are getting a great calf workout in this city because our hotel always seems to be UP no matter what way we come to it. We got into Cecilia's car, and headed farther down to the port. ... he participated in a Russian-Canadian expedition walking from Russia via the North Pole to Ellesmere Island (Canada). He spoke of the training and the trip then illustrated his talk with photographs. Seems just as hard now as when the early explorers wandered around. There was a cocktail party before dinner then after dinner a slide presentation of the photographs people had put on the Quark computer. It gave a lovely recap to a great ...

... each estancia, or farm. We've made it to Patagonia. There are no people here until we arrive at Comodoro Rivadavia, a kind of working man's town with lots of hustle bustle on the main street. Petrolium is the game here. There's little else as the land is just big hills of gravely dirt.
So we took the bus down the coast to Rada Tilly, the nearest tourist town. It has a very wide beach and, this being Saturday, there was a big rugby tounament going on ...
